How do I choose a water pump?
Water pumps are available in all shapes and sizes. For example, you have a submersible pump, rainwater pump or a sprinkler pump. The question you might ask is: which garden pump fits my drainage or watering job? In this article I tell you in which situation you need a certain water pump.
I want to spray my garden with rainwater
Watering pump / irrigation pump
- In combination with a sprinkler or brook, suitable for watering the garden.
- Put this pump in a dry place.
- Suitable for rainwater from a rain barrel, well or reservoir.
- Whether or not suitable for (highly) polluted water per product.
Rain barrel pump
- In combination with a sprinkler or brook, suitable for watering the garden.
- Put this pump in a wet place, in this case in the rain barrel. Look in the manual for the maximum immersion depth and other safety information.
- Especially suitable for water from the rain barrel.
Hydrophore pump / rainwater pump
- In combination with a sprinkler or brook, suitable for watering the garden.
- Also suitable for rainwater supply in the home (flushing the toilet with rainwater, for example).
- Put this pump in a dry place.
- Suitable for rainwater from rain barrel, well or reservoir.
I want to drain my living space or pond
Submersible pump
- Suitable for draining a flooded basement, room or pumping out a pond.
- This pump will put you in a wet place, for example in your flooded cellar. Look in the manual for the maximum immersion depth and other safety information.
- Suitable or not suitable for contaminated water per product.
I want to increase the water pressure in the pipes
Hydrophore pump / rainwater pump
- Suitable for keeping the water pipe on pressure.
- Put this pump in a dry place.
- Also suitable for rainwater supply in the house (flushing the toilet with rainwater, for example).
- Suitable for rainwater from well or reservoir.
I want to flush my toilet with rainwater

I want to drain a small amount of water

- Suitable for pumping away small amounts of water, for example from the aquarium.
- Use in combination with a drill.
General advice
Not all substances can be pumped. Substances that you are not allowed to pump are: salt water, aggressive and highly flammable substances or foodstuffs. Look in the manual for more information about substances that can not be pumped with your specific pump.
