S21 camera explanation

Thanks to the different lenses and smart software, you can take the most beautiful photos. Try out the tips and functions below to impress people with your Instagram photos and holiday photos.

  • Wide-angle lens: tall buildings and wide landscapes
  • Telephoto lens: zoom in without quality loss
  • Night mode: capture details in the dark as well
  • Portrait mode: depth of field effect

Wide-angle lens

All S21 smartphones have the same wide-angle lens. Thanks to the large viewing angle of this lens, you can fit more in your photos compared to the regular lens. Use the wide-angle lens for a wide landscape, a tall building, or a large group of people, for example. Or you can use the wide-angle lens to capture a larger part of an impressive cloud formation on camera. Tap on the icon with 3 trees in the camera app to select the wide-angle lens.

Telephoto lens

You use the telephoto lens to zoom in. The S21 and S21 Plus have one telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, while the double telephoto lens of the S21 Ultra has 10x optical zoom. Optical zoom means that your photo doesn't lose any quality. You can use the telephoto lens to bring a faraway object closer, but also to place an object front and center without any noise. You can also zoom in on a certain pattern, which lets you take artistic photos. Tap on the icon with one tree to select the telephoto lens.

With the Galaxy S21 series, you have an extensive range of both hardware and software options when it comes to videos. The camera records in razor-sharp 8K resolution. You can adjust the resolution in the camera app via the second button from the right at the top of the screen. The Director's View is a new function for the S21 series. It provides a preview of all of the different lenses at the same time. In addition, you can switch from your regular camera to your wide-angle camera while you record. This way, you can direct your own video while you're still recording it. Go to the camera app, choose More and then Director's View to use this function.

Night mode

The more light, the sharper and more detailed your photos are. That's why it's such a challenge to take beautiful photos in the dark. Thanks to the combination of an advanced lens and smart software, you can take noticeably nicer night photos with S21 smartphones than with other devices. The S21 Ultra captures the most light, so it takes the best night photos. Go to More in the camera app and select Night. In order to capture as much light as possible, the device needs a few seconds to take the photo. Hold the smartphone very steady, otherwise your photos will be blurry. It can help to use a tripod.

Portrait photos

With portrait photos, it's nice if the background of the person or object is blurred. The smart software from Samsung helps. Go to More and select Portrait in the camera app to take a portrait photo with this software. Do you prefer to be in control yourself. Experiment with taking photos with the telephoto lens. Tap the object or person you're photographing and the background will become blurry right away. Since you're not creating this effect with software but with the camera itself, this depth of field effect looks more natural.
