Expert review of the Harman Kardon Citation 300
Harman Kardon Citation 300
- With the Google Assistant you can control the speaker via voice commands.
- In addition to using WiFi, you also stream music from a smartphone or laptop to the speaker via Bluetooth.
- The Kvadrat casing is dust and fire-proof.
- The speaker doesn't have AirPlay support
What I noticed first about the Citation 300 speaker, is the compactness of the speaker and the design. Thanks to the compact size, I can easily see the speaker anywhere in the house. The design is sleek, but thanks to the fabric it also gives a warm feeling. The casing is supposedly fire-proof. I didn't try this. The touch screen on the top of the speaker gives a modern look.
The installation takes about 15 minutes. I connect the speaker to the power outlet. In the touch screen I select the language and click on continue. I further set up the device via the Google Home app on my smartphone. I choose what the device should be called, in which room it is located, and via which WiFi connection I connect the device. By confirming the sound from the speaker, I know that the installation is complete.
I find the Google Home app very user-friendly and offers many possibilities. The most practical option is to operate my multi-room sound setup. I simply indicate in which room which speaker is. I also easily connect my Spotify and Netflix account to the app. I can also use the app to choose in which room I want to play which music or which movie I want to play.
What I am most curious about is the voice control via the built-in Google Assistant. In the app, you activate the speech Assistant after connecting to your WiFi network. I call 'Hey Google' to set up voice recognition. After setup, I ask the speech assistant for the latest news, what time it is, what the weather will be like today, and where the nearest coffeehouse is. I receive an answer to all my questions. I ask the Assistant to play a specific Spotify playlist, which she sets up without any difficulty.
I don't think the Citation 300 is a big speaker. Still, a lot of sound comes from this device, thanks to the 2 built-in tweeters and 2 built-in woofers. Both at a low and a high volume, I find the sound detailed and clearly understandable. You can adjust the sound easily via the touch screen on the top of the speaker.
The Citation 300 exceeds my expectations. It's a compact speaker, but with a considerable sound range. In addition, the built-in Google Assistant really complements the speaker. The voice control and the many possibilities of the Assistant offer ease of use in several respects. The design with the Kvadrat fabric casing is an addition to your current home furnishings. If you want to get more out of the speaker, I recommend that you purchase multiple speakers from the Citation line-up for a multi-room setup.
