Expert review of the Sony WH-1000XM2
- The noise canceling muffles ambient noise very well.
- The wide frequency range of 5 to 40,000Hz makes the sound detailed (Hi-Res).
- You stream high quality audio thanks to the Bluetooth profile aptX.
- Upgrade digital music files (mp3 , ACC, ATRAC and WMA) to almost Hi-Res quality.
- The controls require some practice.
- The headphones don't shut off automatically, so the battery runs out if you don't shut them off yourself.
In the box is a hard case, micro usb cable, airplane adapter, 3.5 millimeter audio cable and a quick guide. With the audio cable you can listen to wired music when the battery is empty. The box and headphones look sleek and stylish. The details of the design have been carefully considered. This way the cable is made in the same style as the headphones. The headset itself looks pretty coarse. I wonder how he is and if he is not too heavy.
Specifications highlighted: noise canceling
The headset has received an award from What Hi-Fi for best wireless noise canceling headphones. And I think that's right. I tested the headphones at home, at work, in the train and outside between shoppers. The ambient noise was completely blocked everywhere. I no longer heard crying babies on the train and did not suffer from the traffic. You can change the noise canceling of strength if you want to continue to hear everyday sounds, such as traffic.
Specifications highlighted: sound
The headset has a powerful 40 mm driver with a Liquid Crystal Polymer diaphragm for heavy beats. This allows the headphones to reproduce a full frequency range up to 40 kHz. With this given I had expected a predominant bass. But the headphones give a clear distinction between vocals and instruments. While I hear the instruments in my right ear, I hear the singer singing clearly on the right.
Highlighted specifications: battery life
The Sony WH-1000XM2 has a battery life of up to 38 hours. This is only when the noise canceling is not enabled. When the function is switched on, it has a maximum battery life of 30 hours. This is long compared to other headphones from the same price range. Most other noise canceling headphones last 20 hours. I really like the Fast Fuel technique, where you only have to charge the headset for 10 minutes to use it for 70 minutes.
Specifications highlighted: carrying comfort
The ear cups fell well over my ears and the ear cushions are also soft. This makes them really suitable for long listening sessions. I have listened to music with headphones for 2 whole working days and I have not had any pain in my ears. Because the ear cushions fell firmly over my ears, my ambient noise was already largely closed. Even without the noise canceling. You can fold up the headphone and store it in the included hardcase. This way it is always protected
Highlighted specifications: controls
The right earcup has four buttons that change the volume, changes songs, pauses the music and accepts incoming calls. Sony calls these buttons intuitive; you use them on feeling, without thinking about it. I see this differently, because the operation requires some practice. So I regularly pressed the wrong button. In the end I had to get the manual to see how it works. But practice makes perfect. Over time, the operation of the buttons was easy for me.
