What hinge system do I need for my built-in fridge?

There are 2 types of hinge systems: the sliding door system and the door-on-door system. If you have a sliding door system, it's possible to switch to a door-on-door system. With a door-on-door system, it's not possible to switch. In this article, you can read what the differences are and which system suits you best.

Finish

Both the cabinet door and the fridge have their own pair of hinges. The cabinet door is not directly on the fridge, but opens and closes with a door guide rail. This opens the 2 doors at the same time as you open the fridge.

Door-on-door

This system has 1 door hinge. With this system, the cabinet door sits directly on the fridge. There is no space between the door of your fridge and the cabinet door. This makes the finish more sleek than on a fridge with a sliding door system.

Switch

Sliding door

We always recommend choosing the door system that you already have. Do you want to switch to a fridge with a door-on-door system in the future? This is possible. You must remove the hinges from your kitchen cabinet and the guide rails from your cabinet door.

Door-on-door

If you have a door-on-door fridge, it's not possible to switch to a fridge with a sliding door system. Your new fridge must also be a door-on-door system.

Sturdiness

Sliding door

A fridge with a sliding door system is not firmly attached to the cabinet door. Depending on the use, the door may sag over time.

Door-on-door

The hinge of a door-on-door system is more robust. This makes the door suitable for carrying heavy Coke bottles, for example.
