Tips for choosing a treadmill
1. Keep your body weight in mind
When buying a treadmill, pay attention to the maximum user weight. This is related to the treadmill's sturdiness. This is partly linked to the shock absorption system as well. More expensive treadmills are more sturdy and have better shock absorption systems, meaning their maximum weight load is higher too.
2. Choose a treadmill with the right width
The width of the running surface is important for walking comfort. The wider the running surface, the more play you have while walking. How much play you need depends on your training goals. Do you use the treadmill for walking or jogging? Then choose a running surface between 40 and 45 centimeters. Are you going to run long stretches or maybe even sprints? Then choose walking surface from 46 centimeters. So you have more room if you make a mistake.
3. Determine what training options you're looking for
What maximum speed is best for you depends on your workout goals. Are you mainly planning to walk or jog? In that case, 15 kilometers an hour will suffice. If you're training for races or if you just enjoy sprinting regularly, you'll need a treadmill with a higher maximum speed.
The tilt angle makes workouts heavier. It can be set both manually and electronically. An electronic tilt angle allows you to walk a track with elevation changes.
With workout programs, you'll reach your personal goal faster. Do you want to lose weight and burn fat, or would you rather work on your endurance? The various workout programs enable you to choose a workout that suits your goal.
Heart rate measurement
Most treadmills have hand pulse sensors that allow you to measure your hear rate. You often have the option to connect a heart rate strap for a more accurate reading. By staying within certain heart rate zones during your workout, you'll be able to lose weight or improve your heart and lung condition more easily.
