What do I need to use the Oculus Rift S?
What are the system requirements?
For the very first Oculus Rift, Oculus already recommended an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 video card. This was necessary to get the required 90 frames per second. If you didn't achieve 90 frames per second for each eye, there was more chance of motion sickness. That is exactly why at least an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 is recommended, because you don't want to feel dizzy while gaming. The slightly older GTX 970 may also be sufficient.
Which desktops are suitable?
As mentioned, at least an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 video card is recommended. Choose a desktop with at least this video card. In addition, an Intel Core i5 processor and at least 8GB RAM is important, but every PC with a GTX 1060 or better has this. A more powerful video card is recommended for the long term, so that future VR games will also run optimally on the Oculus Rift S.
Which laptops are suitable?
If a gaming laptop is more your thing, also make sure it has at least a GTX 1060. Make sure to check if it has a mini DisplayPort connector. This allows you to easily connect the Oculus Rift S without needing a converter.
What video card do I need?
It's important to take into account the lower limit when purchasing a separate video card. This should be least GTX 1060 if you want to use the Oculus Rift S. Also check whether your computer case has enough space and if the video card you have in mind fits on your motherboard. If this isn't the case, you need a new motherboard. Keep this in mind if you're going to upgrade your hardware.
