Pros and cons

According to our powerline adapter expert
  • Create a WiFi hotspot and connect your devices wirelessly to your network.
  • With Gigabit Ethernet ports, you transfer files 10 times faster than with fast Ethernet ports.
  • The adapters don't have an integrated socket to connect another device.
  • The maximum speed of powerline adapters depends on the power network in your house, as sockets without earth provide a lower speed and you can't plug a powerline in a power strip.

Description

Turn any socket into a WiFi hotspot with the Netgear Powerline PLW1000 KIT. Connect the access point adapter to your router, plug the powerline adapter into the socket, and you immediately have an extra internet connector. Because the PLW1000 uses the existing powerlines in your home, there's no need to run long network cables.

    Very effective

    • Pros:
Very effective, easy to set up
    • Con:
both units get quite warm in operation
    • Con:
      booster unit is quite large

I found these easy to set up and the boost from the wi-fi booster is considerable, sufficient to allow the signal to be picked up from another floor in an old townhouse with thick floors and ceilings.

    Easy to install and manage

    • Pros:
      Easy to install
    • Pros:
Can be installed next to an existing CPL network

It is working well with a router from a different vendor and next to an existing CPL network also from another vendor
