Smart functions unreliable due to server problems

  • As a thermostat it works well, but the smart part is very unreliable
  • Connection to server often drops

This smart thermostat was purchased primarily to operate it remotely via the iPhone, due to irregular schedules. That works reasonably well, although there are some teething problems in the iOS app. The biggest problem is that all traffic between the app and the thermostat goes through Honeywell's servers. If somewhere in that chain 1 thing goes wrong, you have no connection and you can no longer operate the thermostat via your phone. Not even if you are at home on the same WiFi as the thermostat. Those connection problems don't resolve themselves until you unplug the thermostat and plug it back in. Very handy when you are not at home. Honeywell's Support department is not cooperating either. The Dutch department is only a conduit to the team in the US, so there is about a week of response time in between. It all seems very clunky.

Don't buy, there are too many problems

  • If it does it's a handy device
  • The accompanying app often doesn't work

I'm not happy with it because the app often crashes. Calling Honeywell's helpdesk takes a lot of time, you can be on hold for half an hour! I think there are far too few people who are not very helpful either.

Not working as it should, no support from Honeywell

  • Price
  • Homekit support
  • Incorrect temperature measurement

- Assembly and commissioning are relatively easy to perform. It is a pity that you have to place an extra 2nd module on the boiler and these adjustments cannot be carried out by everyone themselves. - The temperature in the house does not correspond to what the thermostat indicates. Compensation can be adjusted in the thermostat, but the strange thing is that the deviation is both positive and negative. Sometimes it is warmer than it actually is and other times it is colder. Compared to 2 other measurements and have to determine that there is a large deviation in the measurement of the Lyric T6. So how can you save on energy? - When we manually change the temperature from eg 19 degrees to 21 degrees on the thermostat or via the app, the measured temperature is very often (but not always) immediately changed to the newly set temperature. According to the thermostat, it will be 1 or more degrees warmer in a few seconds and the heating will not start. - The operation of Geofence when exiting the set zone works normally and the thermostat goes to the lower set position. But when we get back inside the zone, the heating comes on very late or not at all. This happens to both my iPhone and my wife's. In the meantime, we have been home for a long time and we have manually adjusted the thermostat a long time ago. In addition, when Geofence is active, the app drains the battery of our phones very quickly. - In recent days it has happened several times that the thermostat is suddenly set to 18 degrees, while everyone is at home and the clock is normally set to 20 degrees. No one has changed anything via the app or on the thermostat, but he still indicates that he has been removed from his clock program for no reason. - From the beginning I have been trying to contact Honeywell regarding these issues, but have not received any response or response from them at all to my support request. To this day I have not had a single response to my emails and contact forms that I filled out on their website. So keep in mind that if you were to buy a product from Honeywell and you need advice or you have technical problems, you should absolutely not count on any help from them. - In the meantime, the device has been returned to Coolblue. They helped me a lot with replacing this bad "smart" thermostat and I now have a Tado V3 hanging on the wall that so far has not suffered from all the problems mentioned above.
