Product Expert smart home hubs

The Google Home speaker plays your favorite music and is your hands-free help around the house. The speaker can be set up for each language and country. You get the most recent information about things such as the trains, the weather, and the news from the country that you've set. This isn't available for Belgium yet. You can give commands to play music or to dim your smart lights. Thanks to voice recognition, you can use the speaker with up to 6 people. First connect the speaker to AC power, then use Bluetooth to link it with the Google Home app on your smartphone via Bluetooth. Adjust settings such as the language of the speaker and the temperature display. Do you have Google Chromecast? If so, you can use voice control to stream videos to your television via the speaker and connect the speaker to other Google Cast supported speakers.

Note: The Flemish version of Google Home isn't available yet. This means you use the Dutch or French version in Belgium. When you ask Google Home questions about the news or the weather, you get answers that are about The Netherlands or France. The other smart options, such as controlling your lighting, thermostat, or your music, are available.

"Sounds and looks nice, but user experience needs work"
In the version: Google Home

By Roy on 4 December 2019

  • Pros:
    Better sound than the mini
  • Pros:
    Easy to setup
  • Pros:
    Looks nice
  • Con:
    Misunderstanding of voice commands
  • Con:
    Occasionally loses connection
  • Con:
Google home integration can be sketchy

It's a decent upgrade over the home mini, but it sometimes just stops playing music when using Spotify. The voice commands and integration with Google Home can make you feel like you live in the future when it works, but too often it leads to frustration. This technology is clearly still in its infancy and still needs a lot of optimisation.
