You can expand your WiFi network with the Devolo Magic 1 WiFi Multiroom Kit. With this set of 3 powerline adapters, you can create 2 extra WiFi points and 4 extra network connections in your house. The powerline adapters communicate with each other via a mesh network, so you're always connected to the strongest WiFi point in your house. This way, you can go online wirelessly on 2 floors and you create network connections for your smart TV, game console, or desktop computer. The network signal runs via the socket, so there's no need to pull any cables.

Thuis heb ik alleen een Ziggo modem die aan de voorkant van de woonkamer hangt. Ik wilde een betere Wifi-ontvangst achter in mijn tuin (ruim 15m diep) en op zolder en ik wilde geen kabels trekken. Ik had hoge verwachtingen van de Devolo Magic 2 WiFi Multiroom Kit. Dit viel echter heel erg tegen.
De installatie ging redelijk vlot als je de handleiding nauwkeurig volgt. Ook het overnemen van de Wifi-instellingen van de Ziggo-router werkte goed zodat de Devolo accesspoints dezelfde netwerknaam en Wifi-key kregen. Na het installeren van de Android app kreeg ik direct een melding dat er nieuwe firmware beschikbaar was voor de Devolo adapters. Er stond nog 5.0.0 op van augustus 2018. En 5.0.1 van oktober zou beschikbaar zijn. De app begon deze gelijk te downloaden installeren. Dat duurde een minuut of 10. Waarna de melding kwam dat de update was gelukt. Als ik echter via de app of het Windows programma Devolo Cockpit de instellingen van de adapters bekeek, stond er dat deze nog steeds waren voorzien van de oude firmware 5.0.0. Als ik de app of Devolo Cockpit opnieuw naar updates liet zoeken, kreeg ik de melding dat alles al up-to-date was. Volgens de helpdesk moest ik dan de cache van mijn webbrowser wissen. Ik snap nog steeds niet wat dat er nu mee te maken heeft. Ik gebruikte een Devolo app en een Devolo Windows applicatie.
Alles was conform de handleiding aangesloten op geaarde contactdozen. Toen ik echter de Ziggo Speedtest gebruikte bleek ik sterk wisselende resultaten te krijgen. Soms had ik overal de maximale snelheid en soms was het nog geen tiende. De supportdesk van Devolo raadde me aan om de Wifi-accesspoints elk een afwijkende Wifi-naam te geven. Op deze manier kon ik apaprt verbinden met de router of een accesspoint om te testen waar het probleem zat. Toen bleek dat mijn router bijna overal een goed bereik had, maar de accesspoints kwamen beide niet verder dan hooguit een kwart van de snelheid en vaak nog minder. Verschillende contactdozen geprobeerd maar het maakte allemaal geen verschil. Misschien ligt het aan de elektrische bedrading in mijn huis, maar ik heb de Devolo kit toch maar terug gestuurd want die voegde niets toe.
