Prinsjesdag 2026: this is what it means for your energy bill

Prinjesdag 2026 has passed. On the third Tuesday of September, the government shared the most important plans for 2027. What do these plans mean for your energy bill next year? We'll tell you more about it in this article.

The most important information listed

  • Energy tax and gas tax stays the same in 2027
  • Reduction energy also stays the same
  • The network operator costs go up more
  • The net-metering regulation stops definitively
  • Noodfonds Energie will open again this winter
Energy taxes go down

Energy tax gas and energy changes

You pay energy tax over every cubic meter and every kilowatt-hour of energy you consume. If the current plans continue, the tax on gas rises from 72.7 cents to 74.6 cents per cubic meter of gas. The tax on energy lowers from 11.1 cents to 10.7 cents.

Network operator costs will increase in 2025

The network operator costs go up again

The ACM determines the rates for network operators every year. According to the first calculation, you pay an average of € 141 more for network operator costs in 2027. That's about € 89 for energy and € 52 for gas.

That's because network operators invest a lot in the energy and gas grid. That way, they're getting it ready for the future with thicker cable and extra transformer substations.

The definitive rates for 2027 can still change. The rise will also differ per network operator.

The reduction energy tax stays the same

The government sees part of your energy consumption as a basic need. That's why you get a fixed discount on the energy tax every year: the reduction energy tax.

If the plans go through, this discount will remain € 628.96 in 2027. That's the same amount as now.

The net-metering regulation ends definitively

The net-metering regulation ends definitively

The net-metering regulation ends definitively on 1 January 2027. Until that time, you can settle the energy you feed in with the energy you consume at a different time. After this date, that's not possible anymore.

You do get compensation for the solar power you feed in. Up until 2030, this compensation is at least half of the net supply rate. That's the rate without government taxes and network operator costs.

That's why you should consume as much of your solar power right away. For example, turn on your washing machine or dishwasher when the sun is shining. That way, you consume less other energy and feed in less.

€ 193 million extra for the Noodfonds Energie

The cabinet will free up € 193 million for the Noodfonds Energie. This fund helps people with a lower income that struggle with paying their energy bill. The plan is to open the fund the coming winter. We'll keep you up to date!

What can you do?

  • Consume less gas: take shorter showers or put the heating bit lower.
  • Consume energy smartly: turn appliances on when the sun is shining and your solar panels are working.
  • Check the Energiefonds: you might qualify for support as soon as the regulation opens.
