The "Premium model" is more expensive, but promised the sleep monitoring and cry detection, so I thought let's give it a go. This is our experience after one week using it.
I bought this "Premium" model because the "standard" Philips Avent was out of stock, which had unsolvable connection issues and we got a refund from Coolblue instead of repair, so had to buy a new model.
Positive surprise: the box had a stand and holder included, which was not obvious from the description and pictures. I won't use these holders, as we carry the camera around with a powerbank, depending where our baby sleeps, stroller, living room, bedroom. But if you want to mount it to a fixed location, the wall or on the side of the crib, you can do it.
The negative surprise is that sleep detection only works if the camera looks at the baby from the top, almost from a vertical position, and the baby is not covered by a blanket. Our baby is older, and the age where using a blanket is normal, so we cannot use it. Obviously, if the baby is sleeping with you in the bed, sleep detection doesn't work either, only if you make the baby sleep on his/her own.
Cry detection needs a paid subscription, and is only working between 0-6 months anyway.
I hoped the premium model will have better connection than the 953 model that we had, but not much. Even on the first day it had connection issues, even when the babymonitor and the screen is in the same room only a few meters away. It is just beeping and trying to connect hopelessly. We live in a house in the outskirts, there are not even interference signals like you would have in a dense appartment building.
The screen is bigger than the 953, which means also a bit more cumbersome to carry around and is heavier. But the picture is indeed nicer.
The jump between Dect and Wifi doesn't seem to work. The screen is beeping that it has lost the Dect connection, but it fails to jump over to the Wifi network, altough it had been set up properly, and all our other devices works well on wifi.
All in all, this model does more for the increased price, wall-crib mount, sleep monitoring, cry detection, but in practice non of these were useful for us. While, it has the seems to have the same connection issues as the non-premium model.
Time will tell weather we will have again connection issues after a few months like the other Philips Avent models.
