The Canon Extender EF 2x III is specially designed for the super telephoto lenses of the professional L-series from Canon. You do not only see this on the outside. This extender has also received the same careful internal treatment as the lenses from this series. Photojournalists, nature and sports photographers can easily expand their collection of beautiful lenses with a 2x extension of the focal length. The unlocking mechanism has been placed with care, making the extender quick and easy to assemble. Your lens is not exposed to all the misery from outside for too long. In addition, the Canon Extender EF 2x III, like all professional Canon products, is resistant to dust and moisture.
You'll get even more similarities with the L- to encounter lenses. The Canon Extender EF 2x III has seven lens elements in three groups. Each of these elements is equipped with Canon's Super Spectra coating to prevent reflections and flare. In addition, the front and rear elements are provided with a fluorine coating, making dust, moisture and stains easily removable. The communication between lens and camera body also continues thanks to the built-in processor. All focus, light metering and ID information is transmitted quickly, so you always use the right information.
Note: When using this extender you lose 2 stops of light. That means that you go from aperture f / 4 to f / 8, for example. When the aperture of the lens becomes f / 8 or more when using an extender, only the manual focus can be used.

I bought the Canon Extender 2x EF so that I still have the 400mm feeling with my 70-200mm f2.8 (L) during the period that I continue to save to a "full-fledged" 400mm L. On various sites you can read that this combination is not very sharp, something I was unable to discover after a few days of bird shooting. A small disadvantage that you will notice is the "backwards" corridor in light. From f2.8 to f5.6 is quite a step. This is the price you pay for doubling your mms. But with good light, f5.6 is absolutely no problem. Or of course raise your ISO above 800 for that one dark photo... The choice is yours. Be careful! in combination with an f4.0 lens or higher, the AF function will no longer work unless you have a 5Dii, 5Diii, 1DX or 7Dii. Chromatic absorption (color chamois) and vignetting (spheres of the image) are barely perceptible on an APCs camera, unless of course you want to cover your wall with your photo. 400 euros is of course not a cheap joke to try out 400mm in my case. However, compared to a 400mm f5.6 L, it is and remains a cup. Especially if you first invested in a nice 70-200mm f2.8 IS, because the IS function continues to work and the 400mm f5.6 unfortunately has no IS....
All in all, very satisfied with the Canon extender 2x EF III. He comes out much better than is often claimed on "professional review sites". Especially if you sporadically need more mm's and you don't want to have back problems with different lenses during your trip, it's more than worth the investment.
Coolblue service? Downright good! Very satisfied. Nothing to complain about!

An extra telephoto lens is relatively expensive and takes up a lot of space in the camera bag, especially if you want a wide range. Now I have my 70-200mm lens and the extender, and in no time at all have up to 400mm in my pocket at a fraction of the price, and half the weight.
The only drawback could be that you lose 2 stops compared to a real telephoto lens, but since I usually only need this range on sunny days outside, that's not a problem for me.
