My experience;
I myself fill the reservoir twice when using it, once for my upper teeth and again for my lower teeth, so 1.5 minutes for the top and 1.5 minutes for the bottom. This is very ample time taken to floss it can be less, this fills each to his own needs of course.
The position I use is then position 2 = 1.5 min
Before the reservoir is almost empty when flossing, I turn it off with 1 hand to make the waterpik motor only suck in air and this may adversely affect the lifespan with prolonged use.
The tube is quite stiff, an advantage is that it can easily be replaced in the intended opening after use, a disadvantage is that you need some practice to maneuver the holder with tip in your mouth, you will quickly become more adept at this my experience.

For hygiene, I periodically rinse the tip and the tube with alcohol or ordinary vinegar to remove any limescale, this is allowed, see instructions for use.
Then rinse again with water.
I always remove the water reservoir from the foot after use, I do this to save the sealing rubber that makes the supply to the engine.
If a rubber always remains in a certain shape due to pressure, this can affect the life of this rubber. Good two year warranty. Again my feeling what I follow in this.
