According to our camera lens expert
The Canon EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM is easy to transport thanks to its weight and size. This 24mm objective weighs only 260 grams, and with a length of just 7 centimeters and a width of 5cm, it's quite small as well. The image stabilizer and the large f/2.8 aperture ensure that you can take pictures in any light situation. This way, you can capture the most beautiful sunsets while traveling, for example.

I've had this lens for a few weeks and am very pleased with it. I bought this lens because it's a focal length I use a lot (on a crop camera), and it can also come in handy as a wide-angle lens if I ever upgrade to a full-frame camera.
For this I have been using the 18-55 kit lens for four years and this is a big improvement. The way the lens feels alone makes it clear that you have quality in your hands here. It's sturdy, and a lot heavier than the kit lens, despite being slightly smaller. The focusing motor is fast and quiet and the IS does its job very well too.
Compared to the 18-55, the photos are really in a class of their own in terms of sharpness. License plates hundreds of meters away are simply legible. With the aperture wide open at F/2.8, there is some blur at the edges, but around F/5.6, this lens is razor-sharp across the entire surface.
There is a little bit of barrel distortion, but compared to an average zoom lens this is not much. And because fewer moving parts are needed due to the lack of zoom, the quality is much better than a zoom lens in this price range. Moreover, I find shooting without zoom much more challenging and fun: it forces you to think more about your point of view and your composition, which in my opinion results in better photos.
