Pros and cons

According to our filter coffee machine expert
  • The brewing temperature and throughput time is very precisely adjusted for this coffee machine to prevent a bitter coffee taste.
  • The warming rack ensures that the coffee stays warm longer and maintains its taste at the same time.
  • With a brewing time of only 6 minutes, a whole pot of coffee is ready quickly.
  • Does not have adjustable coffee strength, so you can't brew coffee to your personal taste.

Description

The Technivorm Moccamaster KBG741 AO Matte Chrome has a very precisely adjusted water temperature and throughput time for brewing the best coffee with a good balance between sweet and bitter. The Moccamaster keeps the coffee at a constant temperature between 80°C and 85°C. This way, the coffee doesn't only stay warm, but the taste also remains at its best. Moccamaster makes their filter devices by hand and tests every device for proper operation, so you're assured of a high-quality coffee machine. Thanks to the stainless steel casing and the copper heating element, it'll last for quite a while.

  • Pros:
    Super reliable
  • Pros:
Keeps the coffee warm for long
  • Pros:
Material used is durable and does not break easy
  • Con:
    Little pricey
  • Con:
Need to replace filter after every pot made

The product makes great coffee, highly recommend this or even the steel pot option one too, brew is kept up to temp and fairly easy to use. Only issue was the setting up was challenging because of no clear instructional manual.

  • Pros:
    Tasty Coffee
  • Pros:
    Consistent Brew
  • Pros:
    Fast & Silent
  • Pros:
    The matte chrome looks luxurious
  • Con:
    The plastic filter-cup feels flimsy

This chrome one replaces the black version I've had for over 10 years. That one was still working fine, albeit there was a lot of chalk built-up, causing it to be slower and loud and not looking as nice anymore, but the coffee was still consistent and hot. That's actually a feature; it will always ensure temps are around ~94 before it starts to brew; so even though it takes longer (and is more noisy), it's still consistent.

About a month in, I'm very happy with the new one with it's chrome look, looks nicer than the black and I was surprised how silent & fast the new (and clean) brews the coffee. This newer version has a shorter power-cord (about 1m) compared to the older model (1.5m), which for me is an advantage, as I don't the length and allows for easier hiding of the cable.

Another great feature is the 20m or 40m (determined by the switch on the right) auto-off feature, preventing burn-ins and possibly saving you some money as well. Implicitly it's also a good indication that you should finish the last coffee before it gets old when it turns of with a rather loud 'click'.

As stated in the cons, the only downside to this very robust and premium experience is the filter-cup ; the plastic feels a little flimsy and too flexible to my liking, but it works just fine.
