According to our amplifier expert
The Onkyo TX-8020 stands out among other amplifiers, thanks to the presence of a digital optical input that provides many extra digital connection options. You can now easily connect your TV to the Onkyo TX-8020 via the optical input, allowing you to play the sound of your TV via your speakers. In addition to the digital inputs, the Onkyo also has a phono input, so you can connect your record player and enjoy your vinyl. Just like its predecessors, the amplifier is equipped with tone control. You can adjust the bass, treble, and balance perfectly, so you can enjoy your music to the fullest.

When using this receiver you notice that it is "Japanese quality". Simplicity graces...ease of use....you would be a real "dummy" not to be able to handle this! Provided that the supplied "Ri" cable is connected between, among other things, CD player & receiver, it will be made even simpler for you, you listen to the radio, put on the CD, then, if you use this cable, automatically put your receiver in the CD position, which is handy. taken, right? Say & think what you will : long live the Japanese quality !

It does what is expected of it and the operation is very simple and clear. In short, not a good recommendation

The installation and use of this product is very simple. You just have to make the right connections, plug in and it works perfectly. Thanks to the optical connection, it is possible to connect the amplifier directly to the television and enjoy optimal sound.
The FM reception of the supplied antenna was very bad, but this was possibly caused by poor placement (in an open cabinet under the TV). By connecting the amplifier with a cable to the external cable (TV/FM), this problem was solved and we can now enjoy all Flemish channels, as well as several Walloon (Classique 21, Pure FM, ...), Dutch, French and German channels, as well as BBC World.
The range of the remote control is - in our opinion - a bit too limited (only within a certain angle in front of the device). Placement also plays a role here. As far as we can see, there is no possibility to connect an IR extension, this would be handy.
The sound quality is very good (combination with Cambridge Audio SX-50). What is unfortunate is that the volume has to be adjusted every time the source is changed or when a different channel is selected. For example, the volume has to be increased by 10 units when switching from a radio station to TV. The volume also changes when a different channel is selected (both on TV and on the radio). As far as we can see there is no possibility of volume smoothing.
