attempted flashy features make it worse

    • Pros:
      Enough power for home use
    • Pros:
      Remote control
    • Pros:
      Swing / Oscillation
    • Con:
Always-on backlit display is annoying at night
    • Con:
The touch-detection feature is just annoying if you don't have kids
    • Con:
Air ionisers generate ozone which is a health hazard
    • Con:
      Other poorly designed features

This is a reasonably powerful fan with several poorly-designed features added-on -- making the overall product worse instead of better. I don't recommend this fan.

    * The display is mostly useless and at night when you're trying to sleep the bright blue display backlight is annoying and bad for sleep.

    * The ion generator is a potential health risk because all ion generators are known to produce ozone, in a confined indoor space it can build up to unsafe levels (anything more than 0.1 ppm). I don't know the rate at which this fan generates ozone when its NION feature is on, but it's probably safest not to use that feature at all.

    * The swing / oscillation works in 2 axes (left-right & up-down). I've never wanted a fan that continuously tilts up and down. The way the oscillation control works makes it difficult to stop the oscillation when the fan is pointed where you want. (To stop the oscillation you have to press the button several times until you get to the "off" setting... stepping through "left-right", "up-down", "left-right+up-down", and finally "off".) There is one oscillation speed and you have a small amount of hand control over the oscillation centerpoint, but it always travels the same distance.

    * There are three fan speed settings, which are all skewed toward the high-end of the power range... "low" on this fan is like "medium" on most similar fans, "medium" on this fan is like "high" on other fans. "high" on this fan is quite loud. It would be nice to have like 5 power settings including a "low" that is truly low.

    * There is a safety feature that stops the fan blade if the front cover is touched. This sounds like an ok idea but it has stopped the fan a few times on me when I was close to the fan but not touching it. When it does stop the fan it sounds like the motor is straining.

    * Most of the on-device controls are not located in a convenient place, so you kind of have to squat down to use them or use the remote. However there is a convenient foot control for on/off/speed-change.

    * When first assembling the fan there is a step that involves connecting a wiring harness with exposed leads and pushing it back up into the neck of the fan before you attach the neck to the base. This is very uncomfortable to do because you feel like you could easily damage the wiring or the connector.

How could they improve it? Drop the display, the ionizer, the vertical swing, the controls on the neck. Add a carrying handle, make the height at least a little adjustable, have 5? evenly-spaced speed options, improve the oscillation controls (including the option of a narrower angle).
