I was looking for a not too expensive, but nice ceiling fan with lighting. I looked at a few websites, but at Coolblue I was the first to come across a sufficiently affordable ceiling fan to my taste: the Bestron DNHD42.
Packaging
The ceiling fan is fine and neatly packaged. There is nothing to criticize about that.
Fix to ceiling
In the past, when I had to hang up 2 ceiling fans in the parental house with my father, you often saw that you had to connect cables with connectors. Or other troublesome systems. Fortunately, the Bestron DNHD42 has it a bit easier. You will only encounter a terminal block at the mounting plate for the ceiling. To attach the lights to the fan, you have to insert a plug into a socket.
What quickly turned out to be very irritating is the fact that you have to turn very small screws in the mounting plate to be able to hang the ceiling fan on it. Often the screw eyes are just not right for each other and your screw falls down. Not a big disaster you would say, but that is where the air holes for the motor are and since they are quite large your screw will fall into the motor and you have to loosen all those other screws and tilt the fan to remove the screw to drop! Since working above your head is already difficult and a heavy fan makes it even more unpleasant, screws that keep falling into the motor are not exactly handy and pleasant. My suggestions: longer screws, grid of very small holes for venting the engine that screws just can't fall through, piece of cardboard with the right sizes that you can place over the holes while mounting.
The rest of the confirmation went well and without any major problems. The type of ceiling where the ceiling fan can be hung are prefab concrete slabs.
Install lights
The lights have a G10 connection. You have to put 2 pins in the holder and turn it a little bit. Given the tight fitting, this can be quite tricky to do. Since these are halogen lamps that you prefer not to touch with your bare hand, you quickly use a kitchen towel, but it can easily get stuck between the lamp and the lamp holder.
Later I probably wanted to add Philips Hue lamps since they also exist with a G10 fitting. Judging by the photos, however, I expect that these are either too thick and/or too long, so that the washer no longer fits. For the price of a Philips Hue starter set, I will not risk it and will purchase Philips Hue for other lamps.
design
The Bestron DNHD42 has a very nice shiny silver-grey appearance. The blades have a silver and black side so that you can adjust the ceiling fan to your own taste. I chose the black side so that it breaks up a bit better in terms of colors with my white ceiling and the silver-grey color of the rest of the ceiling fan.
Service
The fan has 4 positions that can be operated by pulling the outer cord. You start with the hardest setting, after another pull the middle speed, after another pull the lowest setting and after the last pull the fan is off. Only on the loudest setting can you hear the fan appreciably, at the other 2 speeds I find that the fan is very quiet.
cooling
Since the fan is attached during a depression in the summer and it is therefore not very hot, I cannot indicate whether the fan provides sufficient cooling during the really hot days. At first glance I hear a pleasant airflow in any case.
Relief
Only after switching on the lights with the pull switch in the middle of the fan did it become apparent how bright the lights actually are. Halogen and 50 watts per light. Ideal for when I need quite a bit of light late at night to look for something on the floor if I have lost something. I don't intend to turn on the lighting often, but it's handy that I can. In the longer term I think that LED lights will be introduced so that I can go from 150 watts (3x 50 watts) to maybe 15 watts or something.
Conclusion
For the price, the Bestron DNHD42 is a very pleasant ceiling fan and certainly not too noisy. The bright halogen G10 lights are very practical for when you need to focus on something (for example, reading something in a book or looking for something you have lost on the floor).
I would like to give the Bestron DNHD42 an 8.5 as a rating. In stars I would give 4 out of 5 or 8 out of 10. Why not 10? This is mainly due to the clumsy screws that fall into the engine compartment.
