According to our projector expert
The BenQ W1070+ is a Full HD home cinema projector that puts image quality first. This 3D projector is ISF certified, which means you can calibrate the image to achieve optimal settings. On top of that, the lens shift function makes sure you can shift the image without losing any of the quality. This means the W1070+ doesn't have to be right in front of the image. The light output is too low to project an image in a brightly light room. This has been done on purpose, since it improves the contrast. Lifelike image display is a guarantee thanks to the contrast ratio of 10,000:1 in combination with 1 billion supported colors. This is exactly what you want in a home cinema projector. The only that's missing from this cinema experience is the popcorn.

First about coolblue: ordered Friday at 12 noon, received the next day at half past nine so I could get started right away. Previous beamer experiences : Infocus IN82,panasonic PT-AE3000,BENQ W7500. Bought this beamer for the 3D so I tested it. Beamer on a mobile projection table next to me, image projected on a matte white screen, image 1.80 meters wide. 3D Blu-rays played on a cheap Panasonic player with all image controls in the middle position. Room completely darkened .Blu-ray's : Frozen,Grand Canyon adventure,Avatar,Gravity,Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,The Hobbit. Observations : -This beamer does not work with the Optoma ZD-201 glasses, but with the new BENQ glasses. The advantage of the Optoma glasses is that the red synchronization flash (which is used in the DLP-link system to synchronize the glasses with the projector) is completely suppressed (at the cost of some brightness), the BENQ glasses still allow some of this flash through, making an entirely black image look somewhat red (very dark red). However, even in dark films such as Gravity and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, this effect is only very occasionally visible in the image, but you can always see that the imageless strips above and below the image are somewhat red so if you like to look at that, this is not the beamer for you. I should add that I am 60 years old and younger eyes may find this phenomenon problematic. -No motion artifacts, you just see the somewhat jerky motion that results from 24 frames per second, just like in the cinema. -Colors somewhat faded (probably used BENQ, to increase the brightness, a colorless segment in the color wheel) so color saturation increased from 50% to 70%. Only in Frozen (animation, so with bright colors) that occasionally gives slightly exaggerated colors but for the other movies it's just right. -Image looks a bit out of focus, so set the sharpness control to maximum, then that beautiful DLP sharpness that I know from the Infocus IN82 (with another player, a different setting of the sharpness can be optimal). No artifacts (double contours and such). -Brightness I think is at cinema level (in 3D mode!). Brighter is not recommended with 24 frames per second, because then movements become jerky (the eye is "faster" with higher brightness), as can be seen immediately if you have the W1070+ project in 2D. -This projector has no "ghosting" or crosstalk between the left and right images, something I am definitely allergic to.
-Contrast is also about cinema level, but not nearly as good as is possible with the better beamers nowadays. -In telephoto position, the lens performs much better than in wide angle position (can be seen by the color edges on white letters, for example), so place the projector as far away from the screen as possible.
Benq has clearly optimized the W1070+ for 3D, the somewhat low color saturation, just being visible from the sync flash, limited contrast all lead to a 3D image with the right brightness (on a 1.80 m wide screen), but at BENQ they have made the right choices to create a device that delivers a balanced image.
In 2D, the W1070+ is much too bright for a 1.80m wide screen, even in eco mode, so you need a 2.4-3m wide screen or a neutral density filter, the image is just as good as in 3D and the red sync flash is missing of course.
After looking for an hour I mounted it on the ceiling and it stays there.....

The Benq W1070+ is a well-suited full-HD projector for home cinema use. With a good fine-tuning (even without IFS) it is possible to get a very nice image. This projector can effortlessly create a large and sharp image at a relatively short distance, has an impressive contrast and can conjure up very natural colors on the screen. The standard setting is already very well adjusted, but with half an hour of adjustment the image can be adjusted even better. The back has enough inputs to connect all your devices. Even the chromecast can go in; there is a USB connection available. Unfortunately, it only supplies power when the projector is turned on; that sometimes leads to CEC conflicts. The CEC works particularly well with the supplied remote control, which has a separate button for backlighting the keys. The lens shift could have a slightly larger range, and horizontal shift is unfortunately missing altogether. The fan noise almost disappears in ECO mode, provided you have a reasonable sound system. The sound is also not really noticeable in silent scenes, and is certainly not disturbing.

I am very satisfied with the beamer, a nice large image can be projected at a fairly short distance from the wall. The colors look nice, and dark is really dark. The fan noise is minimal and dwarfed by the sound of an average movie.
So far I haven't had any significant problems with so-called rainbow artifacts, something that some cheaper DLP projectors suffer from. This may be due to the relatively fast color wheel (6x).
The speakers are not of high quality, so it is recommended to use external speakers. The projector has no significant lens shift (adjustability in the vertical direction). It is therefore important to place it on a low table or to hang it from the ceiling. On a shelf halfway up the wall is not a good option. Also, it is not recommended to project "obliquely", that is, from a corner of the room. The distortions that then arise can be corrected with keystone correction, but in dark scenes it is still noticeable that a kind of "light edge" is created around the image, in the form of the uncorrected image.
In the end I mounted the beamer on the ceiling, so that the image hardly needs to be corrected. I am very satisfied with the result.
