According to our amplifier expert
Even though this is the starter model in the CXA series, the Cambridge CXA-60 is a versatile stereo amplifier. The amplifier uses the same Wolfson DAC as the award-winning Cambridge Audio DacMagic. Together with other high-quality components, the digital-to-analog converter ensures high sound quality. Thanks to the digital inputs, the sound from your connected CD player or other music device sounds crystal clear coming through the Cambridge CXA-60. Of course, the necessary analog inputs and outputs are included, so you can easily connect all your HiFi equipment.

I don't quite understand Niels Klaasen's review. The speakers he uses may not be a good match for the CXA60. Tastes can of course differ, but most amateur and professional reviewers agree that this is a very good amplifier.
I am very satisfied, the sound is just as beautiful and detailed as the design. 60 watts is more than enough to drive most speakers well. It is a very musical amplifier with a great sense of rhythm. That may sound a bit opaque, but if you compare this amplifier with, for example, an average home, garden and kitchen surround receiver, you will understand what I mean. My previous amplifier, a Pioneer VSX-921 (also a great device, by the way) was a surround receiver, which had a full sound, but it did sound a bit "woolly".
My Kef Q7 floorstanders seem perfectly suited for the CXA60. Cambridge Audio has in any case delivered an excellent set of products with the CX line!

Great amp, you can't stop playing music when you have this unit. Amazing how well old recordings are rendered, never heard the Rolling Stones sound so good. Muse is a party, Sting sounds crystal clear and Kate Bush is also doing a fantastic job.

Bought this Cambridge amplifier as a worthy successor to a tube amplifier. The good reviews of this amplifier certainly contributed to the final purchase. The sound is well balanced, I can describe it as "pleasantly analytical". The attention paid by Cambridge to the nutritional structure is clearly perceptible. Low end is beautiful, with a lot of authority and drive. The power supply delivers fast, and enough power when needed! The built-in Wolfson dac is of excellent quality, a nice upgrade for my old CD player. I really like the volume control of the amplifier. From low to louder volume goes very gradually. This means that you can easily adjust the sound. Nice detail is that you can press the buttons for tone control and balance when not in use. This way they are less noticeable, and the amplifier looks even sleeker. Very unfortunate about the lack of a USB connection for the dac. Finally, it may be mentioned that unfortunately a phono input is missing. Nowadays "vinyl" spinning is back, and it's a missed opportunity for Cambridge to neglect to add a phono stage to the amplifier. All in all, this amplifier is definitely recommended! Quality is at a high level, price is all things considered, very friendly...
