If you want to use it with a receiver that is always on (for example KPN), you will have to switch manually. Because these receivers always send a signal, the switch does not know whether the receiver is in standby or actually on. This can be done with the remote control that is included or the button on the switch.
If you have one device with a constant signal (for example a TV or PC) and the rest of the devices switch on and off completely (for example Xbox 360 / One, PS4 and the like) then it will work. For example, as soon as you turn on your Xbox, the switch jumps neatly to your Xbox and as soon as it turns off, it jumps back to the constant signal.
The switch is fairly fast (can take a while if your TV has to jump from input resolution) so I'm certainly not complaining about that :)
