According to our trash can expert
Those who like to help the environment by separating their waste, opt for an intelligent trash can. The Joseph Joseph Intelligent Waste Totem 48 liter waste bin consists of several compartments where you throw your waste. The container itself has a capacity of 24 liters. At the bottom of the trash can is a 24-liter drawer that you divide with the supplied partition in your own way. You use this tray to separate glass and paper. The lid is fitted with an odor filter that prevents unpleasant odors. This way you avoid having to throw away a half-full bag because of the smell.
Please note: there is no gft container included with this model. These are only included with the 60 liter models.Trash can type | Trash separation 3 compartments | |

Recently moved and now we have to separate the waste: paper, plastic, bio and rest. Started with two plastic bins from the well-known blue-yellow shop at the bottom of the kitchen cupboard for plastic and paper. However, this turned out not to be ideal for several reasons: plastic is sometimes also dirty (eg food wrapped in plastic) and because of the wide size of the bins, no garbage bags fit normally.
We had a normal Brabantia waste bin for residual waste, which is still in good condition after 7 years, but no longer meets the requirements due to the new waste separation policy. Looking for a duo box at Coolblue, I soon came across this Joseph Joseph. I already knew the brand from the cutting board set, but it was unknown to me that they also make trash cans. Yet it immediately appealed to me.
Firstly, as far as I've been able to find, it's the only quad-box. In addition, it was also on sale, which not only made it many times cheaper than elsewhere, but as icing on the cake I came across a well-known "second chance" for another two tens less.
What I expected beforehand based on the photos and description at Coolblue was not entirely correct afterwards, some things in a positive way and others in a negative sense.
To start with the positive: I ordered the Graphite, because I thought the Stone (white) was too infectious, because in the photos they looked like plastic with a stainless steel lid. Nothing turned out to be less true: the trash can was completely metal and stainless steel, except for handles and the internal bins, of course, which are made of plastic.
The other positive point: the second chance turned out to be in completely new condition. I expected that there might be a small scratch or maybe fingerprints would be present, after all you pay less than a product that has never been opened. But no: really perfect condition! I suspect that it was really only opened and that the previous buyer might not have found it beautiful or big enough. And otherwise I would also have the right to return it for 14 days, which is the beauty of Coolblue and the reason why I am always willing to pay a little more than a competitor asks.
On to the trash can itself: this one is really ingenious. The only downsides I can think of is that the bottom drawer is a bit smaller than expected and Coolblue writes "In the bottom of the trash is a 14-litre drawer that you can divide in your way with the supplied divider". That suggests that you can place the partition in a number of ways, but unfortunately that is not the case. It's either 50/50 or a big box. You can live with that, but a version 2.0 of this trash can could be made a little more modular.
Another part in the description that is not correct is that the trash can should have wheels to move it easily. This is not the case, there are rubber caps underneath and only the drawer has wheels. I also don't think it is necessary at all to have a mobile trash can, but Coolblue could adjust this to make it clearer.
Those were also the negatives, which are not even all negatives. For the rest I am very satisfied with it. The organic waste/organic container is removable, has a lid (you don't have to use it) and the biggest advantage: the standard 10-litre pedal bin bags from the supermarket fit perfectly in it. The same applies to the large residual waste compartment: the standard 40 liter garbage bags fit here with a very small pull around the edge. Because let's be honest: although Joseph Joseph sells perfectly fitting bags (also at Coolblue), they are ridiculously expensive in my opinion. You literally pay 10-20 times as much as the bags of the well-known A-brand in the supermarket.
How we have classified it now is: residual waste in the large compartment, paper in the drawer and bio-waste in the small, removable tray. We have plastic in our Brabantia for the time being, but that is because things are going very fast in our family. Maybe it's doable for others. On the other hand: I don't feel like throwing the drawer in the wheelie bins in the garden every evening, otherwise I might as well use the drawer for plastic as well.

Nice trash can to separate waste. Easy to use. Very nice that there is a separate container for organic waste! It has a handle so you can bring it to the container.

Have been using the trash can for about 3 weeks now and am very satisfied. Nice sleek design with a luxurious look. Nice that waste separation is possible without having to put 3-4 bins in my small kitchen. The drawer at the bottom is a bit smaller than I expected. Not an insurmountable problem for my 1-person household: just throw away the paper and plastic that I separate in this more often. I also find it a pity that the partition can only be attached in 1 place. At times it would be more practical to have a division of 2/3 and 1/3. I don't use the green box myself, because in my neighborhood it is not possible to take it away and I don't have a larger green box to empty the box. Keep in mind that you have to empty it after 1-2 days if you are in the habit of cooking with fresh products. Fingerprints and smudges on the lid are unavoidable when you throw away waste during cooking by using the touch system to open the lid. Wipe it over and it's clean again!
