Great alarm clock with great sound.

I was very doubtful. Had already read many reviews that said that the numbers were difficult to see in the dark, the setting was complicated and that the buttons are difficult to find in the dark. I ordered it anyway because I couldn't find a nicer alarm clock that also has 2 USB connections and if I didn't like it I could just return it. So little risk!

I've had it for a week now. I really think it's a great device. Yes the numbers are dimmed in the dark. However for me that's fine. With most alarm clocks you have a bowl of light in your bedroom. This alarm clock is just right. I can read the time well at night. I could imagine it could be tricky at a certain angle. It does not bother me. Settings are very good. Time and alarm are set like this. There are much trickier devices. I didn't find it difficult. Switching off the alarm by touch is also not difficult. It takes some getting used to, but the button you have to press has a little curvature that can be felt well in the dark. In addition, those 2 USB connections are very nice for charging my smartphone and the sound is also great. Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase so far!

We had been looking for some (actually 2) good clock radios for a while. In this age of smartphones, a clock radio seems to be a dying item and in my opinion some innovation in this area is lacking. Until I saw this JBL Horizon, and also the Pure Siesta rise (see other review). I had already read some reviews (6m ago), but was still not convinced by several points from:

When you are woken up, the volume of the radio (or buzzer or wake up sounds) goes from min to max in seconds. There is no such thing as waking up peacefully here.
The display dims too much during the night, making it almost impossible to read the time.

Further investigation revealed that JBL was aware of this and would update their software. This was also confirmed after contact with JBL.

So, after the Pure Siesta Sunrise (which will probably also be returned), hopeful after the purchase, it was time for the disappointment;

The volume on wake up still goes from min to max, but now in a minute or so, instead of a few seconds. Certainly an improvement, but the real improvement would have been to make this max volume adjustable (like some alarm clocks I know). The solution proposed by JBL is to use your smartphone via bluetooth, so that you can reduce the volume there. To me, that's just a wipe against the bleeding.
Apparently the display has also been adjusted. Only now it no longer dims hard enough, so that the bedroom is no longer dark.

I understand that JBL's engineering department has done the simple adjustments (adjusting some parameters in their software) instead of a more extensive update that requires one to adjust menus and add items in the navigation of the clock (those complaints were known for at least 6 months and reported by many on the JBL website) Furthermore, some smaller minuses, such as not automatically setting the clock. Something that is easy to realize, if RDS was integrated in the receiver, which also immediately yields station names instead of frequencies.
