The laptop needs to have a DDR3 connector. You can check this in the Windows Task Manager by clicking 'More Details' under the 'Performance' header. It'll say DDR3 or DDR4 under memory. If it doesn't say anything about the connector, you'll need a DDR4.

I bought this ram to use in my Synology DS918+ and it works great! I can run a windows VM on it without having to worry about running out of ram.

No problem at all, doing perfectly fine on my Synology DS918+ which reports and uses the 16 GB even if it's not supposed to do so. Lots of buffer size improving the general I/O performance at a lower price than SSDs that are really useful only when you have a lot of random access (typically VMs), not when streaming media over your local network.
This is my second Synology NAS, I'm upgrading from a DS413 which is 5 years old, still working perfectly but too slow for streaming video. Super easy to install and use. If you know your needs this is the absolute no brainer. Synology is unbeatable especially for the software (DiskStation Manager) which is awesome and extremely rich.
Bought two sets (32 GB) for my iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015) and it works perfect, easy to install. Highly recommended upgrade.
