Due to a redesign of the living room, the old stereo furniture had to disappear. I had a somewhat older 5.1 home cinema set in it. Of course I did not want to give up on the surround experience, but would still like to switch to the convenience of a soundbar. After some research I came up with the recent HW-M series from Samsung, in which different models can be combined with a wireless surround set (SWA-8500). That was interesting: fewer cables, still surround, a slim soundbar on the wall, reason to be happy. I still had my doubts: sound quality. To what extent could a soundbar match the sound of my old 5.1 set? After listening to various soundbars at friends, acquaintances and shops, I had confidence in this. Price-quality ratio is of course also important, so some research was needed in that area. All in all, I ended up with the HW-M550. I've owned these for a few days now and have absolutely no regrets. Assembly and connection was easy, there is a drilling template in the package that helps you place the holes in your wall in the right place. Connecting to the TV was also easy: with the supplied optical cable or the HDMI ARC connection you're done. The subwoofer is also wireless (except for the power cable of course) so it quickly found a place in a corner. First I tested the sound without the surround speakers. Result: a tight, wide sound, where the subwoofer is easy to adjust. A whole row of music files was then rushed through the speakers, from ambient to rock to metal: everything clicks perfectly. Then came the film test, still without the surround speakers. The intro of LOTR-The Fellowship Of The Ring has many sound nuances from whisper-soft to ferocious thumping. You guessed it, I've been enjoying the sound. Some reviews on the American site talk moderately about the subwoofer of this set, I don't have a bad word to say about this myself. The built-in surround spread in the soundbar also provides an excellent width in the film sound. Then it was time to connect the wireless surround speakers... Especially with movies, these are an almost mandatory addition: you really have the 'being in the sound' experience of a traditional 5.1 set. These also provide a pleasant filling of the space with music. Of course it is a matter of 'all value for money' and with larger investments you can have much nicer sound in your room, but in this price range the HW-M550 is highly recommended, especially in combination with the wireless set (Coolblue: add really add this to your assortment, then you can make people happy in 1 go).

Nicely designed sound set, nice sound. Connection and operation is simple, no unnecessary buttons and settings (,,, which you do nothing with anyway). Just good.

This soundbar has been in the house for a week. Overall a great device. All wires can be neatly hidden through small holes in the back. The front and top of the soundbar look sleek. It is quite large and just doesn't fit between the legs of the TV for me, so it stands further forward and seems more present. My preference is for a soundbar that disappears and does not stand out. The text in the display goes out after a short moment, so that it is completely nice and even black. If you set something else, or press a button on the remote control, the display will turn on again for a while. And that's a good thing, because what really annoys me is that the text is not in the middle of the soundbar. I have added a photo of this (in my eyes) defect for your convenience. No joke: great device for a great price.
