According to our Fully automatic espresso machine expert
Maintenance takes more effort compared to other fully automatic coffee machines.
It doesn't have a heating plate to preheat the cups.
Description
For the lover of a little more luxury, the Saeco Picobaristo Deluxe SM5573/10 is the right choice. The front of the machine and the handle on the milk carafe have a beautiful, stainless steel finish. In addition to espresso, latte macchiato, and cappuccino, you can also make an americano or a lungo with 1 push of the button. You can adjust every coffee specialty to precisely suit your taste, and store coffee recipes for 4 people by varying the intensity, amount, and temperature. This is very easily done via the clear text display. You won't need to descale the espresso machine as often, thanks to the AquaClean water filters. You can keep the milk system clean with the automatic cleaning program.
Perfect and easy to operate device, highly recommended
Very good value for money (especially after cashback)
Excellent coffee, wide variety of drinks possible
Beautiful looking device (stainless steel)
No hot plate for cups
Have had the device for a week now and in short I am very happy and satisfied with it.
After my DeLonghi Magnifica coffee machine gave up the ghost after 12 years of loyal service and intensive use, I was looking for an affordable and easy to operate new machine.
CoolBlue offered this machine considerably (€100) cheaper than its competitors. In addition, Saeco (an originally Italian brand and since 2009 acquired by Philips, which now also releases the same machines, with a slightly different appearance, now also under its own brand name) also gave me another €50 cashback. This put this fully automatic machine (which moves milk itself) in the price category of automatic machines that do not froth the milk themselves (but are also good of course).
By means of 5 speed selection buttons, 5 coffee drinks, 2 without milk (placed on the left, Espresso and Coffee) and 3 with milk (placed on the right, Cappuccino, Latte Macchiato and Café au Lait), can be selected directly. With a 6th button, you can adjust the coffee strength or select pre-ground coffee.
For coffee drinks without milk, 2 cups can be made at the same time (press the same quick selection button twice in succession). The drinks with milk go 1 for 1.
By pressing a menu button, 6 other drinks can be selected; Ristretto, Espresso Double, Americano, Espresso Macchiato, Frothed milk and Hot water. The latter, "hot water" is indeed hot, enough hot for a cup of tea.
However, I must say that I did set the water temperature to its "hottest" via the "menu button". Via this menu button, in combination with 4 selection, confirmation and return buttons, a number of other things can be set (such as water hardness, language, etc.)
The machine has a standard setting for dispensing the amount of coffee and milk. These quantities are also easy to program differently for the drinks under the speed selection keys (more/less milk and/or coffee). I have not yet been able to discover this option for the drinks under the menu button. (I don't mind it though)
Cleaning is also easy. After every brewed coffee drink with milk, the machine gives you the choice for 10 seconds whether you want to clean the milk part. After I have my number of coffee drinks ready, I always do this. The milk spout therefore always remains clean and I can immediately put the milk jug back in the fridge. The milk jug with the "mechanism" is easy to disassemble and clean.
The machine uses a water filter in its reservoir, which makes the water it uses for the coffee less "hard" and the coffee and tea taste good. As a result, the appliance only needs to be descaled after 5000 cups (according to the description). However, after about 650 cups, the filter, about €16/piece, should be replaced. I have bought a total maintenance set (with 2 water filters, 6 cleaning tablets, 6 milk cleaners and a tube of lubricant for the brew group), again from Coolblue (they were the cheapest in this), so that I can go ahead for the time being (standard is 1 water filter and a tube of lubricant included)
The brew group is easy to remove and clean with water. It should be lubricated from time to time. (wasn't necessary with my DeLonghi at the time)
The bean grinder has ceramic grinding discs that are more solid than steel (and leave no aftertaste). The grinding degree can be infinitely adjusted from coarse to fine.
The sound of the grinder is great. (in my estimation only 10% of the sound of my DeLonghi at the time) In addition to a valve, the bean container is also covered with an extra lid (with rubber edge), which on the one hand reduces the noise, but also the aroma of the coffee beans are better preserved.
A few critical points, but certainly not of decisive significance:
a warming plate for coffee cups is missing, too bad!
a spout for manual frothing of milk is missing
the distance from the milk spout to the cup is a bit large and unfortunately cannot be reduced (can splash, especially with the last remnant of milk)
the distance from the hot water spout to the cup is a bit large and cannot be reduced either
the machine rinses well after use (fine), but uses a lot of water, so that water has to be topped up relatively often and also the drip tray (which is very spacious) fills up faster
A whole story. It may be clear that I am extremely satisfied with this machine. I can now very easily and quickly mix various varied coffee drinks.
There are of course machines that have all kinds of electronic jokes (such as; a touchscreen; control via apps; etc.). (at a significantly higher price) Functionally, however, they add little to nothing, compared to this machine.
And one does not have to leave it for the appearance either. This machine is covered with real stainless steel plates (mounted over the plastic housing, so no stainless steel-look coating) and is therefore a real jewel in the kitchen.
In short; recommended!! Don't hesitate, just do it.

Good device but no spare parts from manufacturer
Good coffee
Parts no longer available
Great machine with good coffee. Just a bit noisy.
However. The water tank was dropped and damaged during filling. Called Philips and this part is no longer available to order there. Unbelievable for a machine that we haven't had for a year.

Solidly built and requires little maintenance
Coffee at a good drinking temperature
Descaler (saves you in maintenance and costs)
I can only make a cup of coffee no mug :(
Had a Siemens EQ3 for this that broke down after 7 years of loyal service, bought it after a lot of research and was purely looking for a device that I need to descale less often, because if I was honest I have postponed that a number of times with my Siemens (process lasted 30min) up to 6 months.
You only have to descale this after 5,000 cups, which means that it can save quite a bit in costs. I only drink black coffee so unfortunately this is a bit too exaggerated but when I have visitors the cappuccino seems to taste good
Where my previous one felt more plastic, this one is more compact and feels solid, while also being lighter. So highly recommended!
