After about 3 weeks of using the Soundbar, I can say that I am not convinced. Installation went smoothly and the Soundbar, Subwoofer and 2 Rear Speakers immediately radiate quality and expectations were high. With a setup of high-end UHD 4K Samsung TV, Playstation Pro and Apple TV, my expectation was that I would be blown off my chair while watching movies and series via Netflix, Plex and playing games via my Playstation Pro. Nothing could be further from the truth. None of these devices support Dolby Atmos or DTS-X.
I had pinned my hopes entirely on the support via ARC from the Samsung TV Apps to the Samsung Soundbar. Unfortunately Samsung does not support this! The audio output is currently only possible from the various apps on surround and nothing more. Means that the Soundbar is far from being used optimally. The feeling of immersion that the 7.1.4 setup should give is missed. Subwoofer lacks bass and rears lack volume and you can barely hear it, even when boosting their volume, which can be adjusted separately. It was crazy to read on various forums that LG is able to send a Dolby Atmos stream to the SoundBar via ARC and Netflix, it's crazy that a setup from Samsung / Samsung cannot do this. Depends more on the TV than the bar but it was disappointing nonetheless. Why does Samsung not provide optimal support for their own products???
Did some testing via a laptop with Windows 10 and Atmos app and if you really have an Atmos track and the SoundBar recognizes it, the sound is immediately great!
So my tip, take a good look at your devices and whether they support Atmos and only if you watch an Atmos supported movie or series does this bar distinguish itself from the cheaper models / competitors. The lack of virtual support is also a thing. If you have a stereo source it will only use the SoundBar and you will not have a subwoofer or rear support. Strange that there is not an option to virtually throw stereo to all speakers to still get some form of immersion and to have the feeling that the speakers do not take up most of the time for bacon and beans in your room.
