Use the right capsules

Tip 1: use the right capsule

Use an espresso capsule when you're making an espresso. The same goes for lungos. You can check what type of coffee the coffee capsules are suitable for on the packaging. The coffee grind is precisely attuned to the water pressure that the machine uses for each type of coffee. When you mix up the coffee capsule, it's possible that the coffee won't come out or coffee grounds end up in your cup.

Tip 2: use an original Nespresso capsule

Some coffee capsules from third-party brands don't work very well in a Nespresso machine. For example, aluminum capsule work better than plastic capsules. That's because a Nespresso machine is designed for original Nespresso capsules. These capsules have the right thickness and perforation, so your coffee machine works optimally.

Tip 3: rinse your Nespresso

The capsule holder might be dirty, which is why you should rinse your machine. This is how you rinse the inside of the machine without using a cleaner.

  1. Empty the machine, so there's no capsule in it.
  2. Fill the water tank with enough water.
  3. Push the button for a large cup of coffee and wait until the water has passed through.
  4. Throw away the water that's left in the tank.

Descale your Nespresso

Tip 4: descale your Nespresso

Finally, we recommend you descale your Nespresso. Lime builds up in the pipes and causes clogs. Descaling your machine isn't difficult. You have to through the following steps:

  1. Choose a descaling agent.
  2. Empty the water tank, the capsule container, and the drip tray.
  3. Place a bowl that can hold at least 1L below the coffee spout.
  4. Fill the water tank with a mix of water and descaling agent.
  5. Activate the descaling program. After, rinse the machine once more with just water.

The precise steps you have to go through differ per model. That's why you should always check the manual of your Nespresso.
