After hesitating about the purchase due to the high price, I bought the FoodSaver FSV2860. A purchase that I have not regretted to date. After a few months of use, I can definitely recommend this device.
Everyone throws away food. Obviously a shame, but often products do not taste better if they are put in a bag in the fridge or freezer. The foodsaver will certainly not prevent this completely, but it offers quite a bit of relief. By sealing food it stays good for much longer (due to the lack of oxygen), tastier (by preventing crystallization) and it is possible to cook sous-vide or let marinades soak in much faster. In addition, sealed products also take up less space, which makes buying cheaper family packaging suddenly much more attractive.
The vacuuming itself is simple. Food goes into the special bags and it is clamped between the device. You choose whether it is moist, slightly moist or dry and you choose the speed of the vacuuming. The more fragile the food, the slower it has to be. With the auto button, the machine will pull the air out and seal it, but with the manual button you can specify how strongly you want to vacuum it. Even sensitive products such as berries remain intact. Here you can indicate yourself when the device should seal. This all works very intuitively. In addition to the bags, it is also possible to use the supplied hose and pot. Ideal for, for example, started coffee that lasts noticeably longer. There is one storage can with the machine, but these can be purchased separately. This also applies to the bags which unfortunately are a bit pricey (40 cents for the small and 70 cents for the large each). These come in different sizes and are easy to use, but the 5 meter rolls are cheaper and can be customised. There are also various other brands that sell the bags, but after a few tests, Foodsaver itself remains the best. The bags are reusable, although they become smaller each time by cutting off the sealing edge.
A disadvantage of this Foodsaver, although I don't expect how other variants will be, is that the sealing is clearly less effective if products are very moist. Because these spread through the bag, they also settle under the seal edge, so that the seal does not always go well. The stock can is therefore more practical for these kinds of things.
And finally the design. The Foodsaver looks nice. Taste is personal, but the brushed aluminum with the black finish does not look out of place in any kitchen. In addition, the film roll is stored in the machine. On the other hand, it is quite a device. In a normal kitchen you will not use a vacuum machine on a daily basis, and the machine is just a bit too big for that to be placed next to the coffee machine and the kettle. Thanks to the rotating base, it is a bit more practical to set up, but for many users the machine will still be stored in the cupboard. The machine is very solid and all parts feel good quality. Because the buttons are completely integrated in the machine, there are no slots where junk can get in and everything is very easy to clean. Very handy in a kitchen.
By the way, I don't just use the device for food. Because I walk regularly, I even sealed a small first aid kit and a poncho. Hugely space-saving and guaranteed dry when it's really needed. A good example of the wide usability of a vacuuming machine.
All in all, an expensive machine, but being able to store it for much longer will pay for itself slowly. Definitely worth the purchase!
