After years of using a Raspberry Pi and Intel based media center, this is more than a replacement. The Shield and Pi are of course not comparable in any way. The same goes for the Intel media center, HDMI-CEC is also supported without an adapter. In terms of performance alone, but also in terms of technology (4K, HDMI2.0b, HDR, DTS-HD, Dolby True HD,...) I can recommend the Shield. One of the few stable performing media players with this much functionality. Both the remote and the game controller feel good and allow you to quickly adjust the volume via the sensitive zone. It is also possible to connect headphones to both the remote and game controller so as not to disturb the environment. Ideal as a Plex media player/server. Netflix is also installed out of the box. Android games like "Asphalt 8: Airborne" feel like console class. We don't have the best internet here and that is really a must. The games sometimes stuttered with WiFi. No problems via Ethernet port. With the previous version there were a lot of complaints about the controller, maybe "die hard" gamers are more used to it, but as a gaming layman I find it really useful. He recognized the wireless keyboard immediately. A wireless keyboard with such a USB stick was also recognized and you can actually operate the shield TV more easily with a mouse and keyboard.

There is not really a well-known browser that you can use from the app store. But you can download the APK files from the net and install them that way. You can find plenty of videos on youtube. So first installed Chrome and that also works flawlessly and really fast. That way you can check your emails etc online. Skype of the same, download and install APK file, flawless. I suspect that you can install a lot of those nice apps that you like to use that way. And very occasionally you are unlucky and it doesn't work out.
