You connect the microphone directly to the Lightning connection of your device. The cable is 6 meters long, so you have a lot of freedom of movement when recording. Thanks to the supplied wind screen, noise is suppressed, so you also take pictures outside. With the microphone clip you attach the microphone to a piece of clothing. That way you have your hands free.
