This is my 2nd Macbook Pro, the previous one was the mid-2010 15" model and was long overdue for replacement. After a visit to a Coolblue store to compare Windows/Apple laptops, I finally decided to go for an MBP again, and the M4 Pro version with 16" screen exceeded all my expectations.
I can only make unfair comparisons with my prehistoric MBP, but what has remained the same is the experience during unpacking and using the product for the first time: Apple does not disappoint once again.
The M4 Pro chip is lightning fast: heavy actions in Photoshop/Lightroom happen almost immediately and rendering a video in Davinci Resolve goes like a rocket. Really great and this saves many minutes during editing.
I read several negatives about the weight, it just depends on what you are used to. For me it is an improvement compared to my mid-2010 15" MBP: it is 0.5kg heavier and 5mm thicker than this 2024 M4 16", otherwise the size is identical but the screen is a nice bit bigger.
The 3 Thunderbolt 5 ports are a welcome addition, over the years all my peripherals have been replaced with a USB-C variant so they can now be connected without an adapter (and loss of speed). Also nice that the built-in SD card reader has remained.
Touch ID is a function that I didn't know I needed, is sometimes a handy tool to verify things.
Yes it is an expensive machine, but really a breath of fresh air
