Look
Elipsa 2E: 10-inch screen
The Elipsa 2E is the largest e-reader that Kobo has released up to now. You can comfortably read from the large screen, and you don't have to flip the page as often. The e-reader also supports the Kobo stylus, so you have access to a thick notebook. The casing doesn't have physical buttons. You can leaf through your digital literature via the touchscreen alone. You can charge and transfer files via the USB-C connector on the side of the device.
Libra 2: 7-inch screen
At first glance, the Kobo Libra 2 looks a lot like its predecessor. The compact 7-inch e-reader has almost the same look as the Libra H2O. The biggest differences are the battery capacity, USB-C, and Bluetooth support. Especially the Bluetooth support is a nice improvement. This way, you can listen to audio books with the Libra 2. The device has a waterproof casing. That allows you to use it in the bath or pool.
Sage: 8-inch screen
The 8-inch Kobo Sage looks like the successor of the Kobo Forma. The device has a larger screen than the compact Kobo Libra. That's convenient, because the e-reader supports the Kobo Stylus, just like the Elipsa. The sage also has a built-in Bluetooth module to listen to audiobooks with earbuds or headphones. You can find the USB-C port on the long side of the device, next to the physical buttons. It doesn't matter if you spill water, because the Sage has a waterproof casing.
Performance
Elipsa 2E: fast and bright screen
With 1GB RAM inside, the Kobo Elipsa 2E performs well. Books and files load faster than with similar e-readers. You can also navigate the menu smoothly. On the large 10-inch screen, you can clearly read the text. The screen also looks more like paper than that of other Kobo e-readers, thanks to the lighter texture. In combination with the Kobo Stylus and the built-in Notepad function, the Kobo Elipsa is an excellent choice when you want an e-reader that allows you to take notes.
Libra 2: compact bookshelf
The performances of the Libra 2 is similar to that of other Kobo e-readers. The 512MB RAM is enough to comfortably leaf through e-books, but not as fast as the Elipsa. The 32GB storage capacity is a nice improvement. You'll have enough storage capacity for 30,000 standard format e-books. This way, you can take your whole digital library with you with the compact Libra 2. The larger storage capacity is also a must, because audiobooks take up more storage space.
Sage: all-rounder
The Kobo Sage combines the advantages of the Elipsa and the Libra 2. The device offers support for audiobooks and the Kobo Stylus. The e-reader is more compact than the Elipsa, so you can take it with you in your bag more easily. The Sage does have certain functions that were missing on the Elipsa, like the waterproof casing, Bluetooth, and physical buttons. This way, there's an e-reader for any usage situation.
Conclusion
The new e-reader series by Kobo doesn't disappoint. The large, bright screen of the Kobo Elipsa 2E is ideal when you regularly take notes. Because of the audiobook support, the Libra 2 allows you to do more than you were used to from a Kobo e-reader. The kobo Sage combines all new properties of the Kobo devices into a convenient 8-inch size.
