How does Free Washing and Drying work?

During some moments, there's a lot of affordable and sustainable energy available. For example, when the sun shines or if there's a strong wind. If you turn on your washing machine or dryer then, you help to keep the power grid balanced. Your energy costs go down as well.

Your washing machine and dryer consume energy. Thanks to a smart connection to our partners, we can measure exactly how much energy you consume while washing or drying. This is possible with brands like Samsung or Beko, that work with SmartThings or HomeWhiz. If you give them permission, they share this data with us. You can see your personal consumption in your My Coolblue environment within 3 days.

In your My Coolblue account you can see:

• How many kilowatt hours you washed or dried for free.
• How much energy you still consume during expensive hours.
• At what moments you save the most. That way, you stay in control of your consumption and you see where you can still make improvements. You don't have to enter or keep track of anything manually.

You receive an overview via email every month, it's called 'Jouw maandelijkse was & watt update'. In it, you can see at a glance how well you're doing and receive practical tips. Such as:

• The ideal washing moment of the day.
• If it's better to turn on your dryer in the morning or at night.
• If you can use your washing machine in a smarter way with a delayed start.

Free Washing is completely free. You don't pay energy costs, no energy tax, nothing at all for energy. You only pay for your detergent. We automatically calculate the discount for you. It differs per contract how you see it:

• Dynamic contract: you see a separate row on your invoice every month with: "discount Free Washing and/or Drying."
• Fixed or variable contract: we calculate the discount in your yearly or final settlement. You don't have to do anything for this.

For everyone with a suitable product that's connected to our smart partners, such as Samsung. Currently, this works with:

• Samsung washing machines and dryers via SmartThings
• Beko appliances via HomeWhiz
