According to our laptop expert
The 17.3-inch Lenovo Legion Y740-17IRHg - 81UJ004RMH is a gaming laptop with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 video card, which lets you play the latest games like Battlefield 1 at ultra settings. You can even play in 4K resolution, so feel free to connect a screen with the Thunderbolt 3 connector and enjoy your games. The Lenovo Legion's screen is Full HD with a 144Hz refresh rate. This means images refresh more quickly than with a 'regular' 60Hz screen, giving you the advantage in competitive shooters. This laptop has 32GB of RAM, so you can open multiple programs during your gaming session without slowing down the game.

After a week of use, still very satisfied with the purchase. Great value for money in the price range.
It is frustrating that you first have to remove the included advertisements for a while.

I bought this laptop after my previous one broke down due to an accident a few months ago. It certainly comes with a hefty price tag, but you also get something in return.
Of course, I had to run quite a few Windows 10 updates before I could actually start using the laptop. Unfortunately, I also found some basic bloatware that Lenovo includes with many of their laptops. i.a. McAfee Scan Plus. I immediately removed that. I manage just fine with the standard Windows antivirus. There was also quite a bit of Dolby on the laptop, because the laptop has Dolby Atmos speakers.
The speakers were mediocre after some testing. Even with Dolby Atmos on. I like the speakers from my previous laptop better. There is a large subwoofer built into the laptop and you can also clearly see it on the outside because it sticks out. This makes the laptop a bit larger than the traditional 17-inch format. When I finally wanted to buy a laptop bag, I really had to look for a suitable bag. That turned out to be quite difficult. Fortunately there were two options, but of course I had hoped for more. I thought that was a shame. Build quality and ergonomics The laptop itself is also not very thin due to the large subwoofer at the back and it is quite heavy to carry around for a laptop. This is compensated by excellent build quality. 90% of the frame is made of aluminum and feels very robust. The keyboard feels very nice and I don't get annoyed by anything while typing. Only on the fact that I do miss a number of numpad keys, such as the Home button or the Insert button. They are hidden behind the Function button. The laptop's touchpad feels normal. Nothing special. It also uses separate left and right buttons, which are not incorporated into the touchpad.
With a laptop that is not too thin, there are of course a number of powerful components in it, which makes the laptop more attractive. Like an Intel Core i7-9750H, which can handle more than enough for a mobile processor to multi-task and game. The thermal results of the processor are excellent. When the processor reaches 90 degrees, it quickly drops back to between 70 and 80 degrees. Of course, the fans also turn on. There is also no shortage of memory with no less than 32GB DDR4 Sodimm memory. Of course, the laptop also has a graphics card to load games more smoothly. The RTX 2080 Max-Q edition provides more than enough power for good mobile gaming. And with 2TB (1024GB M.2 SSD, 1024GB HDD) of space, you also have enough storage to store everything. I really enjoyed the combination of components while playing intensive games like Grand Theft Auto V, Borderlands 3, Battlefield V on max settings. During those intensive tests, I was also not disturbed by the heat of the laptop because all the heat goes out at the back. You can feel it a little above the keyboard, but unlike my old laptop it's not that bad.
For the people who are interested about the display, I will now type a little before. The display is quite good. It's not a 4K UHD HDR display or no OLED, but it's certainly not wrong either. This laptop uses an IPS panel. The resolution is just Full HD (1080p), but it is 144Hz and has full G-Sync support, so it really does have a G-Sync module and is not just "G-Sync compatible".
Now about all connections. I appreciate the presence of a Thunderbolt connection on the left and a mini-Displayport connection on the back that also houses the connection for the power adapter, a USB 3.0 connection, a USB 2.0 connection, an ethernet connection (1Gbps support) and an HDMI connection. The great thing about everything being on the back is that you can hide the cables nicely and create a very clean look. There is also a USB 2.0 connection on the right side. I find the power adapter really clumsy because it is so big and so much power goes through it (230 watts).
The consumption of this laptop is therefore not economical. If you want to do all your tasks properly, the laptop must always be connected to the power. However, the laptop does have built-in functions such as Eco-mode to reduce your consumption. Eco-mode, for example, lowers the brightness of the screen and turns off the graphics card, so you only use the Intel integrated graphics from the motherboard. Can you still get a few hours out of the laptop (I tested it myself). I find the presence of a Killer internet module disappointing because the software is playing with my connection all the time. After some configuration I finally got it normal. I like Intel's software and module better.
