After much deliberation, I made the choice for a chromebook instead of a laptop. The battery life was decisive.
Installing is child's play, and you can create multiple accounts that can be completely personalized.
At first I only wanted to use it for school. Also found a vmware app in the app store and contrary to what is stated on this site, it works perfectly. Open the laptop and see a picture within seconds, unlocking can be done via password or fingerprint or by unlocking a paired phone.
Then login to vmware. (cloud) In my case there is a Windows PC and everything you want to open just works.
The chromebook is a perfect conduit.
The downside is the trackpad, it doesn't always follow your finger very well. The left and right mouse keys are also not visible and I do not find them useful. A separate mouse offers the solution. However, your only standard USB port will then be in use. You still have 2 USB-C ports left.
It also does not have a standard HDMI (or whatever such a port is called) for an extra display. Also not sure if this is possible via a usb c - hdmi adapter. Casting goes smoothly (e.g. the ziggo app)
What also counted in my choice was Windows support/updates. Now it appears after purchasing the Chromebook that it will no longer receive updates 6 years after the production date.
