Since 1 May 2017 you will be registered with the BKR if you take out a mobile phone subscription in excess of € 250. Registration only applies to the payment of your device, not for monthly costs such as calling and internet. BKR stands for Stichting Bureau Krediet Registratie. Do you want to borrow money for a new car, refurbishment or mortgage? Then you will automatically be registered with the BKR. The registration is designed to prevent you from taking out a loan that you can not actually pay. As of 1 May 2017 the BKR registration also applies to the conclusion of a telephone subscription where you have to pay more than € 250 for the device. Bel, SMS and internet costs are not included here.

Having a positive BKR registration influences the amount of a future loan, for example for a mortgage. With a mortgage application, the mortgage provider checks whether you have a BKR registration. With a positive registration your maximum height will be lowered. Do you have a negative BKR registration? Then it is not possible to take out a new loan.

When you take out a telephone subscription, you get a positive BKR registration. For comparison: you also get a positive registration if you have a credit card or are in the red. If you do not pay the loan on time according to the agreed installments, it is possible that you will receive a negative BKR registration. Before this happens, you will first receive reminders, reminders or other warnings. Do you pay the costs for your device every month? Then your registration will remain positive.

Would you prefer not to be registered with the BKR by your mobile phone subscription? Then you can take out a subscription and pay the costs for the device. With some providers it is possible to pay device costs that exceed € 250, - and pay the remaining amount in installments. First ask your provider if this is possible.
