How do I change the settings of the laptop lid in Windows 10?

You want to change the behavior of the lid of your laptop. When you close the lid, you want the laptop to go into sleep mode, or that nothing happens at all. In this article, we explain how to change the settings of your laptop lid. This way, the laptop will do exactly what you want when you close it.

Step 1: Open Power Settings

Open Customize Power Plan in the Windows 10 Start Menu.

Click on the Windows logo at the bottom left of the screen.

Type 'Power Settings' and click on the option Customize power plan.

Step 2: Advanced Power Settings

You now have the power plan of your laptop in front of you. Click on the blue link Customize Advanced Power Settings. You will now see a window with the current advanced power settings.

In the new advanced settings window, click on Power buttons and lid. In the expanded options menu, choose Action for closing lid.

You'll now see 2 options: Battery and Current. You select the behavior of your laptop's lid when you close it per option. You can choose from the following settings:

*Take no action

  • Sleep mode
  • Slumber mode
  • Exit

Choose your preferred option and click OK. When you close the lid of your laptop now, it'll perform the action you just set up.
