How do you connect your headset to the Xbox One?

Do you want to connect a headset to your Xbox One? You can do that in different ways. On this page, I'll explain exactly which options you have to connect your Xbox One and your headset. That being said, it's important that the headset is suitable for the Xbox One.

Step 1: connect 3.5mm jack headset to controller

Controller

There are 2 ways to connect a 3.5 mm headset to the controller, namely:

  1. Directly via the headset connector on the controller.

  2. Indirectly via a stereo headset adapter that's connected to the controller.

** Please note: ** If you have a headset with a green (stereo audio) and pink (microphone) connector, you need a 3.5mm jack adapter cable.

Step 1.1: connect directly to the controller (mono)

  1. Grab the Xbox controller.
  2. Insert the headset plug into the headset connector on the controller, as illustrated in the image.
  3. Start the Xbox One.
  4. Go to Settings and select Devices and accessories.
  5. Select the appropriate controller and apply your desired sound settings.

Step 1.2: connect via stereo headset adapter on the controller

  1. Take the stereo headset adapter and insert it in the expansion port on the controller, as illustrated in the image.
  2. Take the stereo headset and connect it to the 3.5 mm jack connector of the adapter.
  3. Use the buttons on the adapter to adjust the sound and microphone volume.
  4. Start the Xbox One.
  5. Go to Settings and select * Devices and accessories. *
  6. Select the appropriate controller and apply your desired sound settings.

Step 2: optical S/PDIF audio cable

Optical S / PDIF audio cable
  1. Connect the optical cable from the base station or headset to the optical connector on your TV and console.
  2. Navigate to the Settings and go to All settings.
  3. Select Picture and sound and go to Audio output.
  4. Select Optical audio options under DIGITAL AUDIO.
  5. Select Stereo uncompressed. If you want to use a Bitstream format (DTS or Dolby Digital), select Bitstream off for Optical audio options.
