How do you make your Melitta Solo ready for use?
Before you prepare your first cup of coffee, you'll have to get your Melitta Solo coffee machine ready for use. We'll explain how to set up the machine correctly in 3 easy steps via a useful instruction video. Rinse the machine and set the water hardness and water filter. This won't take more than 10 minutes.
Get started with the Melitta Solo
Before you can start making all sorts of coffees with your new machine, you have to make it ready for use in 3 steps. We'll go through these steps with you:
- Step 1. Connect the machine
- Step 2. Set the water hardness
- Step 3. Connect the milk system
You need:
- Water hardness test strip
- Water filter
- Cup of at least 100ml
Step 1: connect the coffee machine
- Remove all stickers from the coffee machine.
- Plug the connector into the socket.
- Pour some fresh coffee beans in the bean hopper.
- Take the water reservoir out of the machine and fill it with water up to the 'Max' mark.
- Place the water tank back into the machine.
- Place an empty mug under the coffee outlet.
- Turn on the coffee machine with the 'ON/OFF' button.
- Press the button with the coffee bean to rinse the machine.
- The machine will automatically stop rinsing. Remove the mug when it's done.
Step 2: adjust the water hardness
- Grap the water hardness test strip.
- Submerge the test strip in a glass of cold water for 5 seconds.
- Check the result after 1 minute.
- The number of red squares indicates the water hardness.
- Select the water hardness on the display.
- Press and hold the button with the single coffee cup and the button with 2 coffee cups simultaneously for a couple of seconds until the icons start flashing.
- Press the button with the single coffee cup.
- Keep pressing the button with the coffee bean until the number of beans on the display match to the number of squares on the test strip.
- Confirm by pressing the 'ON/OFF' button.
Step 3: set the water filter
- Grab the water filter.
- Scroll the date dial to 2 months ahead.
- Submerge the water filter in a glass of water for a couple of minutes.
- Turn off the coffee machine and press and hold the button with the coffee bean and the 'ON/OFF' button for 3 seconds.
- Remove the drip tray, empty it, and put it back.
- Take the water tank out of the machine and empty it.
- Click the attachment onto the water filter and screw the water filter onto the bottom of the water tank. Remove the attachment from the water filter.
- Fill the water tank up to the 'Max' mark and put it back into the machine.
- Press the button with the coffee bean, so the machine will rinse shortly.
- Take the full drip tray out of the machine, empty it, and put it back.
- Your machine is ready for use.
How often should you clean your Melitta coffee machine?
By cleaning your coffee machine on time, you'll prevent blockages and defects. The coffee quality will also remain at its best. So treat your coffee machine hygienically and perform the following maintenance:
- Rinse brew group: weekly
- Replace water filter: every 2 months
- Descale: every 3 months
