I bought the Fresh 'n Rebel Rockbox #3 because I was looking for a bluetooth speaker with good sound quality. I also wanted a speaker that could be loud enough so that I could listen to my music outside, even when there was some background noise.
• Sound Quality & Sound Volume
The Fresh Â'n Rebel Rockbox #3, also called Chunk, has a power of two times 12 Watts (= 24W!) These are two times 70 mm drivers.
That is a lot for a box in this price range. So it is not surprising that it can be very loud. I have already found that he can easily fill my living room, which is a room of four by eight meters, with music. And also when I'm sitting outside with a group of friends talking, this box can be loud enough to hear clearly.
The speaker also has very good sound quality.
The low tones (the bass) are simply superb. This is due to the large passive woofer of this box. Music with a lot of bass and good beats therefore sounds incredibly good, especially when the volume is turned up a bit. The sound is also not distorted at higher volume.
The highs are not perfect, so the sound is not crystal clear, but that is not very noticeable.
• Design
I think the speaker has a beautiful design. This is due to the simple bar shape with rounded edges and only three buttons. The matte plastic makes the box look beautiful, but that is also the biggest drawback of this box (even though I don't mind): The matte plastic gets dirty quickly. That's also because I chose the black version. You quickly see fingerprints and they are not so easy to remove. I have found that it is only easy to clean with microfiber cloths.
• Battery
Fresh Â'n Rebel promises 24 hours of fun. I know from experience that it's 8pm earlier, but that's still a huge amount. So I can take it anywhere for a weekend without any problems and enjoy my favorite music without having to charge it. When the battery is empty, it will charge in about two hours! That is little and that is because a special charger is included. This allows you to plug the box directly into the socket.
• Ease of use
Connecting the Rockbox with bluetooth is done in three seconds. Turn on the bluetooth of your smartphone, set the switch to ON and you will immediately hear your favorite music sounding from the box.
At the top are only three buttons, albeit with multiple functions. For example, it is super handy when your smartphone is on the other side of the room and the box is playing next to you. Then just press the pause button and the music will pause.
A second disadvantage is that this speaker is not that compact, but that is not so bad, because it can be very loud precisely because it is not so small.
The Rockbox has a weight of 1340 grams and measures 32 cm x 22 cm x 8.8 cm. So it can easily fit in your backpack.
• Extras
The Rockbox has a USB port so that it can also be used as a power bank. Super handy. When the battery of my smartphone is on the low side again while I'm listening to music, I can just charge it on the speaker itself. That's especially useful when I'm listening outside and there's no power outlet nearby.
The aux output is also a very handy feature. I use this to make my home stereo wireless. While I used to have to connect my mobile phone to the stereo with a cable, I now just hang my Rockbox on the sound system (with the supplied (!) aux cable). This way I can walk around the room with my smartphone and use it in the meantime.
There is also an option to connect via the aux cable. This is necessary if, for example, you use an MP3 player without Bluetooth.
You can also make calls with the bluetooth speaker, because there is a microphone and a button to record.
I personally don't use these last two functions, but I'm sure other people will find them very useful.
This speaker is not waterproof, but I don't mind, because because the box can be loud enough, you can put it far enough so that it doesn't get wet and you can still hear the music well. It also rarely happens that I come near water with this box.
I am also very satisfied with Coolblue's service. I already had this product at my house at 11 a.m. while I ordered it the day before at 8 p.m. Coolblue also clearly states that if I am not satisfied, for whatever reason, I can always return it. That reassured me. I think the service of Coolblue is really great.
• Conclusion:
The Fresh 'n Rebel Rockbox #3 is a beautiful bluetooth speaker with a very good sound quality and sound volume that needs to be cleaned regularly. The price-quality ratio is very good. The extras that this speaker offers is also one of the reasons why I bought this box.
I am more than satisfied with this product.
