I have been in possession of the Toon from Eneco for two weeks now. The installation was carried out by Eneco itself and I replaced my old standard Honeywell thermostat.
Installation
The installation was completed within 10 minutes. It took the mechanic about 5 minutes to place a box near my CV (Intergas) and I had already made sure that there were sufficient power connections. He then removed the old thermostat and placed the Tone within 5 minutes. He asked me if I wanted an explanation, but it wasn't necessary.
Usage
At the moment I don't notice much of the thermostat, because it is not yet cold enough. Of course I started playing with the settings and options.
For example, I immediately set the standard temperatures for the 4 preset positions (Home, Comfort, Away and another that I forgot). Then I started adjusting the settings for when the thermostat is in standby mode. If you don't touch the Tone for 30 seconds, the screen changes to a kind of e-reader image. Black background with gray numbers/letters. I personally think this is a nice setting, since the white (illuminated) screen can provide quite a bit of light in the evening. You can also adjust the intensity of the lighting. I would also like to be able to adjust what you see and how large on the Home screen. Unfortunately this is not possible.
It is possible to set which position you want for the whole week, per time. I myself have irregular hours when I work and when I am at home, so not convenient for me at all.
App (remote)
I have installed the application from/for Toon on my iPhone. The app is useful for remotely controlling the thermostat, especially your heating of course. You can also see how much you have used, per hour/day/week/month. It takes about a month before you get to see more from Toon about your usage. I have not used the app for the iPad yet.
design
The Toon wouldn't look out of place in my living room. The wall where my Toon hangs is white, so it fits well with Toon's white border. The black (stand by) screen is noticeable, but I don't find it disturbing.
Toon has a round shape at the back, making it stand out slightly from the wall. I don't notice this much myself, but I know that it doesn't fit completely close to the wall. Incidentally, the mechanic made sure that everything is level. Of course, the thermostat hangs at a certain height, so that the temperature can be measured properly. This is a bit crazy at first, since you feel like you want everything a little higher. Especially when you're setting everything up. Anyway, after a while you hardly touch Toon.
Conclusion
The Toon is a beautiful product with sufficient options for a standard household. However, if you want to set the temperature you want per room, this will not work with tone. It is true that Toon handles OpenTherm CVs well, as is mine. In the hope that Eneco will not stop developing the Toon and the application. Think, for example, of a notification system, when you suddenly use much more than average. You now have to recognize this yourself, by looking at your consumption. You do this in the beginning because it is fun, but after a while you stop doing this. In addition, I hope for an integration of Toon with HomeKit (Apple) and Brillo (Google), so that you can control the Toon via Siri, for example. I also hope for geo-fencing, so that Toon can recognize when I leave my house and no one is home. It is precisely the continued development of gadgets like this that makes it fun for me as a user. This way I continue to actively use and test the Toon. Eneco can use the mailbox that is present on tone to ask me what I would like and how I experience the tone.
