According to our smartwatch expert
Not a big fan of heart rate straps? The Garmin Forerunner 235 is the first Garmin sports watch with heart rate measurement on the wrist. All you need to do is wear your watch and put on your running shoes, and you'll be all set. Read your heart rate and heart rate zone while you're running, so you can adjust your effort to the right level. The watch features a race time forecast and recovery time. You no longer need to bring out your smartphone to control your music, because you can simply use the controls of the Forerunner 235. You don't have to worry about missing messages or calls either, as these will be displayed on your watch.
Note: an adapter isn't included. Do you want to charge the watch via a socket? If so, order an adapter separately.

I've had it for a few days now and was quite pleased with it at first, except that I immediately thought that the watch feels and looks very cheap. It is completely made of plastic/rubber. This makes it feel light, but I certainly don't think it feels premium while you still have to pay a considerable amount for it.
After using it for 3 days, I started to notice that the heart rate jumped absurdly while I was just sitting quietly working at the computer. At one point I took the watch off, but to my surprise it kept recording heart rate (between 70-75 and back to 64 and back to 70) all while just laying on the desk.
After restarting the watch a few times and turning off the HRM sensor a few times, the problem persisted. In fact, it has worsened. The heart rate is now fixed at 66 and will not go from there. Whatever I do. Even a hard reset didn't help.
There is a thread on the Garmin forums in which several people report these problems and that for a longer period of time. Several software updates later it is still not resolved and that is very disappointing for a device of that money. Strongly thinking about returning it as now I'm just a beta tester.
Furthermore, it is potentially a top thing, but for now my judgment is negative. Let them come with a good update first, but I'm afraid I'll already have brought it back.

Didn't have the forerunner 225 that long, but I have to say that this 235 is a lot nicer. It has a larger screen and therefore you can lose more information. Is a lot thinner and lighter, is very comfortable to wear, has a fast GPS fix and I can go on like this for a while. Anyone who is used to a Garmin will be able to find their way on this watch. Also funny, but not decisive for me, are the watch faces that you can download. This way you can give this watch a bit of its own look. But as said.. of less importance.

Before this I had a Forerunner 220, but because of the possibilities I bought the 235. The 235 is a fine watch, easy to understand and set up. Can also be used as a daily watch. Heart rate monitor works well, finally no more strap on. The 235 can also be used for cycling, the measurement is not per km, but per 5 km. The apps give you the option to set the watch even more to your own wishes. There is also a route app to put the route on your watch, with which you can walk / cycle the correct route. A small minus, the alarm and vibration signal are softer than with the 220. What I didn't know, but also find it easy, is the signaling of your phone on the watch. Now when a call, template or agenda comes in, it will also appear on your watch. You can also turn this off. For me a good watch that I use daily and an improvement compared to the Forerunner 220
