Pros and cons

According to our semi-automatic espresso machine expert
  • The steam pipe has 2 settings for making milk foam or hot milk.
  • Preheat your cups on the heating plate so that an espresso cools off less quickly.
  • With the hot water function, you can easily make a cup of tea or preheat your cup.
  • You'll have to buy a separate bean grinder before you get started as it isn't included.
  • Due to the basic build quality, it has a shorter lifespan than other piston machines.

Description

With the De'Longhi ECP35.31, you can make not only a delicious espresso and cappuccino at home, but also a latte. This is because the steam wand has 2 settings, allowing you to foam up milk for a cappuccino, or just heat up milk for a latte. Keep your cups on top of the machine so they'll get nice and warm. As a result, the coffee will cool down less quickly. With the hot water function, you can also make a cup of tea. The machine is also suitable for making coffee with a coffee pod. That's useful if you want to have a cup of coffee in the morning despite being in a hurry. Did you forget to turn off the espresso machine? No problem, because the machine switches off automatically after 9 minutes.

Tip: don't forget to buy a separate coffee grinder for making coffee with freshly-ground beans.

Note: it takes time and patience to learn how to prepare a tasty coffee with a piston machine. This isn't nearly as easy as with a fully automatic espresso machine.

    • Pros:
      Decent quality of espresso
    • Pros:
      Inside reservoir, water level visible
    • Pros:
Takes ground coffee and ESE pads
    • Con:
      Handle hard to rotate

Finally a piston machine that worked. We returned two (Krups Opio and Gaggia Viva Style). The Krups did not flow when you put ground coffee. The Gaggia was a complete junk, stay away from them...
