"Why didn't I buy this before" - that was what I thought after using this Dyson V8 a few times.
Most of us know it: don't feel like vacuuming because you have to get that cumbersome thing out of the closet, the cord that gets stuck behind everything and the hose that ensures that you just don't get to that one corner or crack.
This device puts an end to that in one fell swoop. The V8 Absolute Pro is the current top model of the Dyson cordless vacuum cleaners, and it shows. Everything has been thought through, and you notice that a whole host of engineers have worked on it. The whole feels solid, the device is nicely balanced (although it might become a bit too heavy for some after vacuuming for fifteen minutes) and the accessories click together smoothly.
With the V8 you can clean stairs, parquet, carpet, seats, you name it. There is a separate suction nozzle for each surface: soft rotating brushes for your hard floor, a slightly coarser and also rotating brush for carpet, small suction nozzles with extendable brushes for corners and small places, ... Our house is inhabited by people and cats , so you will find dust and hair everywhere. With this Dyson, I was able to get everywhere without wasting time - I walked smoothly down the stairs, cleared a cobweb that hung high against the ceiling, all the while changing the squeegee quickly to clean both the carpets and the hard floor.
Dyson boasts up to 40 minutes of run time. This is when you use accessories that are not powered by the battery: the nozzles for hard floors and carpets have rotating parts that help with cleaning and therefore also use energy from the battery. In most cases you do use these attachments, and then you can count on vacuuming for about 20 minutes. I've found this to be more than enough for our multi-storey house, as the unit only vacuums when you pull the trigger, rather than turning all the time like a conventional vacuum cleaner. It is a pity that you cannot change the battery: you always have to recharge the device, and that takes five (!) hours. The packaging also includes a handy charging station that you can mount on the wall or in a cupboard, as well as a carrying bag for the (smaller) accessories.
By default, the Dyson V8 is set to "Max mode". You can quickly set it to standard mode with a switch. The "Max" is in fact a very powerful mode, with which you can loosen a lot of dirt even in long-pile carpet. Unfortunately, the vacuum cleaner only lasts seven minutes. So I only use this mode when it's really necessary.
I thought the device was going to make a lot more noise, but that turned out to be not that bad: you can safely talk about the buzzing. The V8 should be a lot quieter than, for example, the V6 or V7, but I have no experience with the latter models.
After all, maintenance is also very simple: since it is a bagless vacuum cleaner, you have to empty the reservoir on time. You pull a lip at the top of the device, and the reservoir is cleaned by a rubber ring while the bottom valve opens automatically. Result: almost all dirt has been removed, and you don't have to remove the last hairs and residues with your hands. This is how a bagless vacuum cleaner should work! By the way, the built-in filter and HEPA filter (for even cleaner air) can be cleaned with water - so you don't have to run to the store all the time for vacuum cleaner bags.
The Dyson V8 Absolute Pro is a pricey beast, but look at it this way: you are much more likely to take the vacuum cleaner out of the closet to, for example, clean a room or a staircase. You don't have to drag a heavy device around, you don't trip over the cord and you're done much faster. As a result, our home is much cleaner, even with pets. Recommended!
