According to our gimbal expert
Note: take into account your phone's dimensions, weight, and possible phone case.
The DJI Osmo Mobile 2 is a stabilizer with gimbal head for your smartphone, so you can record stable images. It's is suitable for phones between 58.6 and 84.8mm wide and up to 8.9mm thick. The maximum camera weight capacity is 240 grams. The stabilizer can track the subject with the ActiveTrack function, so you'll always have the subject in focus. The smooth motor absorbs vibrations and reduces them. The joystick on the handle allows you to turn the gimbal head. You can also use the handle for creative modes, such as time lapse and panorama. Thanks to the DJI Go app for iOS and Android smartphones, you can share and edit images. In addition, you can charge your phone with the USB port.

Over the past few years I have started filming more and more, without training, purely as a hobby, with GoPro and iPhone. Because I like the whole process of recording and editing, I was looking for cheap options to make it just that little bit more professional. The purchase of a stabilizer became my first step. Over the past few months, I've been reading reviews and watching videos to determine which one it should be. Long doubted between this and the Zhiyun Smooth 4. The Zhiyun is praised for its scroll wheel and extra buttons, but the app itself in combination with Active Tracking (AT) scored less. Because AT seemed like one of the most useful features to me, I didn't think I was going to need all those extra buttons, and the iPhone app for the Osmo was well rated (note: Android app does get comments), came the Osmo emerged as the winner for me.
I have had the Osmo for a week now and have played with it nicely. And the device does not disappoint me! When using it for the very first time, it is important to calibrate the Osmo in combination with your phone, so that it remains well balanced. But after that you can get started right away! The iPhone app first presents you with a short tutorial, in which you become acquainted with the most important features. In any case, it does the most important task perfectly: stabilizing your image. But the Active Track function is also very useful, whereby a fixed subject remains nicely in the center of the image when the subject itself moves. What I also thought was a very nice, creative feature: making Hyperlapses and Motion Hyperlapses. It is an extension of the well-known Timelapse. For example, with the first you walk through a busy shopping street, fixing a subject in the distance. Everything around that subject moves like a timelapse. And with a Motion Hyperlapse, you put the Osmo on a tripod, where you mark a number of points in your environment. Then you start the Hyperlapse, and the Osmo automatically moves along the different points. That gives that cool House of Cards effect!
A few minor notes:
Tip:
Finally, a small spring for Coolblue: my first Osmo copy had a problem with one of the adjusting screws. Returned and I had a replacement within a few days!

Packaging The packaging of the DJI Osmo Mobile 2 is very solid. It comes in a sturdy light case that is a bit on the large side. The Osmo is firmly in this. The advantage of the slightly larger case is that the Osmo can be stored in the same configuration (does not have to be adapted to your mobile every time). A "handy" feature of the case is that there is a hole in the box, where you can put the Osmo.
Contents In terms of content, there is little to say about the Mobile 2. There is a USB cable and manual in the box. For example, what could be an added value is a small "stand" that would allow the Osmo to stand upright. The hole in the case in which it fits is smart, but the case is so big that you can't put it down conveniently.
the gimbal Then the gimbal. Placing the mobile in this Osmo is quite fast. You place it in the holder and stabilize it on the two axes. After it has been placed, you can turn it on and pair it with the app. This too went very quickly and easily (DJI Go app on Android). The gimbal provides a very tight image, and stabilizes the image really well. A disadvantage I have is that the Samsung S9 shows a small part of the gimbal in the picture when you turn to the left. The problem is solved if you move the mobile slightly, but this is of course not very useful. There are also videos on the internet with an S9, where the gimbal cannot be seen. They also had to slide the mobile slightly out of the holder. All in all, the mobile remains nicely stabilized.
The App I really like the DJI Go app. All settings are present in terms of resolutions (from 4k to 720p), perhaps this is even better with the normal camera, but for now the DJI Go app suffices for me. The big advantage of this app is the extra functionalities you get. From Hyperlapse to Motion Timelapse, all super cool to play with. The Active Track function is also very useful when tracking objects.
Conclusion The DJI Osmo Mobile 2 is a very nice gadget that is also quite affordable (better than its predecessor). For video-making enthusiasts, this is definitely a must try. I'm going to buy a Pole and Stand with it, so I can make some nice effects with the Osmo. I can also place it like this to make cool Motion Timelapses. All in all, highly recommended! (of course also due to the good delivery of Coolblue, of course).

Within two days I was able to take very nice pictures. To film really nicely, you have to practice and get to know the osmo, but that is no different with a tripod. The possibilities are much larger and more extensive than with a tripod and that simply by hand without tripping over your own tripod. Attach a monopod to the bottom and you can make images as if you had filmed with a drone or jib. Highly recommended so far.
