I bought the GoPro about 2 months before our holiday, but I haven't really 'played' with it enough with the result that the images of the first days of our holiday have not turned out really nice. Tips:

Play with the GoPro frequently before your holiday, so that you know the device and its possibilities well.
Especially during snorkeling and diving it is difficult to look at the screen and to keep an eye on your subject. That's why you often film off-the-cuff. Therefore, consider carefully which lens mode (narrow, linear or wide) you want to use. I made a number of films in 'linear' mode where I had just too little of the subjects in view. Wide is then the better option.
Also try out the photo, time-lapse and hyper-lapse functions in eg a sunset.
You do not have the option to mount color filters on the GP Hero 8 itself. I bought an underwater housing with three color filters (red, light red and magenta). Find (again) some YouTube videos about the use of filters.
Keep in mind that you can just film a few hundred gigabytes of videos. I bought a 265 GB microSD card. That is enough for two weeks. However, our laptop didn't have enough disk space. One battery runs out pretty quickly. With two batteries I always had just enough power for an afternoon of filming.
