More than meets expectations. I switched from a gas outdoor kitchen/bbq to the big green egg medium, bringing the BGE up to temperature almost equal to the gas outdoor kitchen/bbq. Lighting the charcoal really a piece of cake, is nothing. Temperature can be better regulated and kept at the same level than the gas outdoor kitchen / BBQ. Dishes are in my personal opinion more tasteful than from the outdoor kitchen/bbq, but I am aware that tastes differ.
